3 pointsI just would like to say Thanks, To all of you that helped me over the few years of learning this business. If someone would of asked me 3 years ago if i would have been that far i would of told them they where crazy! But From being addicted to these forms i have learned so so so much.. even watching youtube video's now i still learn nice tricks to the trade now and then.. Like a big one i just learned the other day watching a " Vinyl Install video " Some chick.. hehe was putting vinyl onto a corno board and she used a ruler and drew on top of the tranfer tape a straight line under all the letters to know where it goes.. wow so simple but so useful and something i never thought about.. and now the last job i had i used that and it worked PERFECT .. I Guess your job goes faster the right tools you have and the right knowledge Work smarter not harder.. Awesome!! Now my Criagslist add is big hit I have been getting more and more odd jobs. The last 3 years I really only did work for people i knew i never really went out of my circle and went to do jobs for complete strangers. I think one of my problems is to much communication. I send like 5 proofs before i cut or make anything, Cause i got screwed once on a T-Shirt order I made 15 shirts for them and the FONT was not the right one.. When he emailed me i didn't have the right font and it didn't warn me that the font was missing so i printed 15 shirts and he never came and got them cause it was wrong. So I lost my ass on that one but lessened learned. Well I'm working on 2 Barber Shop Store fronts right now. Really my first customer that i really didn't know. So I just wanted to say Thanks.. I would say name but there really are to many to remember and type for that matter Thanks and God Bless!

3 pointsI do it the same way as SeeJay, just 3-4' at a time, weed at the same time the next batch is cutting. Do yourself a favor and don't try to gang them to tightly. I know its tempting to save vinyl but it makes your job more difficult.

2 pointswell got a year out of the roland blade again - graphtec is actually going strong a little longer soooo - will have to see how much longer. between the cleancuts and the graphtec can weeding get much easier? Love is a good cutting blade you don't have to mess with Just sayin

2 pointsI've been doing this a year and a half now and I'm still guilty of doing this... The time I waste in labor isn't worth the pennies I save in used vinyl...

1 pointHello everybody I just wanted to let you know I am offering vectorization services. I made a site for this purpose and I woud like you to see it and give me opinions. www.decalization.com The purpose of it is to vectorize and simplify things in order to make cuttable designs. Free vectors are cool, but not always you can get what you are looking for. If you ever need custom graphics, visit my site and I might be able to help you. Thank you. Joe

1 pointSo a tough week at my house for major appliances, washing machine goes and then the dish washer (not the wife the electric one). So I thought to myself how I can customize the washing machine…hmmmm. BAM it hit me, well I will let the picture tell the story. The wife laughed and said she can’t wait to see what I have in store for the dish washer.

1 pointI too do the same, I also, still being fairly new, use a piece of scrap to run 1 by itself to check things like cut quality, making sure I didn't forget to weld the text if necessary, making sure I didn't forget to turn mirror off in case I cut shirts last time.... etc etc.... Then I break them down in small batches so you can work while your cutter is working

1 pointBuck a piece for the new large ones on usc- if your customers will take the used ones great but I would have a hard time giving used stakes with an order for most customers

1 pointWell I ended up get'n 4 rolls of 15"x50 yard new rolls of LG vinyl and a half a roll of clear mask 24" wide and a unused can of frog juice and a can that had been used plus the cutter , stand , and some new blades . Got it all for $240 . So I feel I done ok . Just hope it does contour cut'n . I just couldn't pass it up for that kind of money for everything .

1 pointWelcome from Idaho. I lived in Jacksonville for a while way back about 1988. Way too hot and humid for my tastes.

1 pointHey there. Many people have decided that using a dedicated cheapie older computer with a serial port, and running WinXP, is the way to go. Think of it this way ---- these cutters/plotters are operating within a legacy software code environment developed in the last century (HPGL)

1 pointThe only way we start learing is to jump right in - there will be a learning curve but we all have to start somewhere. If you like it you can move up later. I think the buying make sense personally - if you are down for 3 months for some reason you aren't trying to come up with the money to pay the lease. or if you decide it isn't for you - you aren't stuck paying the lease for the contract period

1 pointI bought my SC last November. It has paid itself off so many times. I really think its a great value cutter. Its no graphtec, but for the money its a great way to get started. Like everything it has some little quirks here and there but nothing you cant work around with ease. Im saving for a graphtec but will still keep my SC as a back up cutter.

1 pointThat's close enough to DC to almost qualify as another world. Slice, how'd you let that job sneak away. I hope someday do be able to reach out that far and at some point I would like to be online only so I'm not tethered to a store all the time. Glad to see you posting more work lately, always nice to look at a more experienced sign makers work.

1 pointI just found this . I will use it to install the cutter. The only question is I have windows 8 everything else that I use the computer just finds it and I can start using it. Am I going to be able to do this with the cutter or do I need to download a driver for it ?

1 pointWhat I like to do when doing something like this is to find a font as close as possible to the original and then node edit it to get it to match up. I usually end up with a cleaner, better looking result than a straight trace.

1 pointIt is referred to as knob and tube. I have seen it coupled with Federal Pacific panels. Scary stuff when a resistant load is applied and the wires glow orange and the sag way before the breaker snaps off. Nothing due to the K&T but the FP. But yep most folks don't know not to touch and in many old structures can still be live. As far as the grounding just make sure the frame is grounded good. Remove the paint from under the eyelet is a good idea as and a bonding jumper from your stand to your cutter frame. You can test your cutter cords ground with a ohm meter to see if you have good continuity between the frame and grounded plug pin.
