Why can't I make big cuts?!?!

This was posted in the SCALPro section , but the original post said SignCut Pro was being used . They are not the same software .

    Leading and Line space

The line & letter spacing is done under " text edit " . You may be looking at the SignBlazer Pro or Hotshot manual . The most basic version is Elements which is what everybody got from USC & free on the internet . It does not have the same features as the higher versions . Make sure your com port settings are matched in the computer's device manager & in the software .

    Us cutter mh871

The setting you need to check/adjust is in the cut window ( Cutter , Cut with USCutter , Cut settings , Cut mode .. use " origin point " instead of " WYSIWYG " . As far as the cut direction , an easy way to work around that would be to rotate the image on the screen . I do not see a setting to adjust that .

    Question about configuration

I have never had that problem at all using SignBlazer . I suggest making something in SB & see if you have the same problem . It may be in the file you are importing ? SCALPro is a nice inexpensive software that does a good job . I would also suggest looking at the node path to see if they are straight .

Sort of a sign blazer question...

That is not a software issue at all ( assuming you have some overcut dialed in ) . It is a cutter & cutter setting issue ( blade sharpness , blade offset , pressure & speed ) along with the cutter's capability . It takes a more capable/experienced operator to cut that size with a value cutter than it does with a top of the line cutter . Also some fonts are much harder to cut than others at that size with perfect settings & the best cutter .

    Newbie with some questions please

Buy a cutter & be able to do it " your way " . I have a buddy who has made me whatever I wanted for free for the last 30 years . I bought my own cutter so i could make things my way & experiment ( he would not let me on his computer ) , plus in order to have a part time decal business now & especially when I move " to the farm " . He does dirt race cars and was always too flashy for what i wanted .. He was always the " artist " and did things his way . The money i spent has made me feel great creating things & being able to redo anything that did not suit me enough . I think the Copam is the best bang for the buck now . I would have said the Zen cutters before USC stopped selling them . BannerJohn , who is an Administrator who is not employed by USC , uses entry level cutters & has not had any problem or need to buy better units . I would probably buy a SC cutter starting out again . If you want the best , buy a Graphtec or even a Gerber , but they are WAY overkill on vinyl imo , unless you are cutting VERY long decals or doing decals full time . Inspect wrapped vehicles before thinking that is high end . I looked at Frank Feller's Ferrari at the Atlantic City show & it was crap compared to a paint job . Granted the cost of painting what he had would have been a zillion times more costly , but quality is quality & wraps don't compare to paint . Doing panels etc is great , but that involves a printer which is much more costly .

    Copam Help!! (please :) )

Much info can be had by going to the section of any software you are learning & reading posts starting with the oldest . I have done that a couple times with the SB section & learned new things each time . I would think reading the SCALPro section would do the same . It is a great beginners software & it is being updated constantly . Those who call it a beta program either don't remember or was not around when SB was released . SB went thru the same type of problems . The owner of SB was especially dedicated to his software . It seemed Craft Edge was similair at first , but seems that has fallen off . Jerry , the owner of SB was on this forum constantly helping with his software & updating any problems . Hopefully the evolved SB software will be released 1 day & the new owner will be close to as motivated as Jerry was . IMO , if Craft Edge was really wanting SCALPro to take off , they would have a tech spend some time on here often ( like every day ) since USC has the " deal " on SCALPro . I suspect there is an issue upstream that is the real problem .... I use SB for many things & use SCALPro for some things . I will probably still use them even if the guy who is giving me a brand new Flexi Pro program with dongle comes thru .

    Pa-POW!

A buddy of mine has the Roland he bought around 1980 ( Only cutter he has ever bought & has been his sole source of income since then ) . I would think the savy could get anything repaired if they get an electronic tech to help . The cost is more of an issue on most things . Many times much cheaper to buy something new or newer than to repair anything . I would keep an eye out for 2100 series cutters for parts if I had bought that . My Copams are 6 years old ... i bought 2 because I intended to keep them until they both die . Heck I would have bought a Graphtec @ $50 just to be in that elite club

Overlapping Application tape on printed Vinyl

I have only had 15" app tape & cut 23" stuff all the time . I have had no problems . I have only used medium tack , but am going to try high tack .

    I LIKE this Place!!!

Well John .... I agree . I have a dozen mini donkeys at the WV farm & i have all sort of ASS names hung on them . I remember somebody posting a " Ass Family " sign here & stole the copyrighted .. I mean borrowed the names . In thinking a little about it .. being called a dumb ass is worse than an ignorant ass .. ignorant can mean not knowing instead of sub-intelligence .

Wow , glad I missed that bit of emotion ... I myself have never been called an ignorant ass .. been called a smart ass plenty of times , but humor was involved then

What thread did this happen in ?? I think i missed it , unless it was the minor disagreement in the 1 thread i remember this member commenting in . From reading this , what is being talked about is much more than that thread . Calling members " trolls " is not within forum rules , so it will be interesting to see what is against forum rules in his opinion .

I am not a great speller .. I actually looked the word up in case it was something I had never came across before . I had to look up " chive on " because I had never heard that before

I am not a grammer cop at all ... I took incesative as insensitive ( that might not be the correct spelling ) ??

I have enjoyed your input etc & enjoy your humor as in this post . I don't read certain threads because of the members involved or the direction taken . There is a thread recently that I understand , but don't like . It is about the members who ask for things instead of trying themselves , but takes an abrasive stance IMO . If it seems there is no effort from the asking member , breeze past it & find something interesting to discuss in another thread . I try not to read the members who seem to have " good & bad moments " constantly . Over or under medicated is probably much of the explanation of the behavoir imo . This is a nice hang out for the experienced & especially to people just buying their 1rst cutter . This forum was the reason i bought from USC . Some members are not consistant & need to be left alone .There has been PLENTY of discussion where nobody was holding hands , just rudeness was not used . There is no problem disagreeing as long as members are not disagreeable .

Thanks Jay .. I " try " to follow it . I don't even read many members post after loosing regard for them . I block some members so i won't be tempted to respond .

It is best to ignore the posts that seem to want others to do the work/effort instead of trying themselves . Then if simple requests /questions hit a member the wrong way , ignore it instead of being rude to ANY extent . There are members who just have a bit more experience than the member asking , that can answer & pay back for the help they have gotten in the past . Everybody stays happy & interact without the nastiness .
  20. For my part you are more than welcome . This is the nicest forum i have ever experienced .. it is good to have more nice members !!!
  21. That would eliminate that part of exposure to civil action , but that part is only the definite proof . Selling or having anything copyrighted for sale is a big exposure IMO .
  22. I put the pinch rollers at the edge of the vinyl & use the rest . I have a different cutter , but think that all cutters can use all but 1/2" . I cut 23 1/2 " on a 24" cutter & make 1 1/2 " stuff on 2" scraps . I buy small cut off rolls to make lines of text .
  23. Mark ... are you drinking again I know there are experts here that get tired of making millions of dollars that spend time here instead of making addition millions ... BUT , since this is a forum for beginners .. this IS the classroom & comments like yours are rude no matter if sincere or sarcastic . It is not within the rules of this forum . I have not seen much graphic artistry here . It is more a manipualtion of existing things using software . Hmm , just read where OWJones addressed this also . Atta boy OW !!! To the original Poster , excuse the rudeness of this member who has admitted drinking while posting before . This forum is NOT like that . His remarks are uncalled for & not said with much intelligence/understanding . Not as bad as some 2 faced , back-stabbing members who have actively posted on other forumS demeaning USC & then come back here & use the classified section & act like a nice guy . Some people need more medication , some need ALOT less . Sadly ,there are plenty of people who dont have or use good morals . I make outlines by taking 2 different sizes of an object & combining or use the outline features if available in the software ( SignBlazer ) or exluding ( SCALPro ) . SCALPro has the ability to outline as SignBlazer , you just have to use the shadow tool to make whatever thickness you want . It is much more basic than that tool in SignBlazer , but effective . Make a 1/4" ( or whatever thickness you want ) shadow to do the same thing .
  24. That is because it is against civil law & any owner or rep of the owner can do that . Criminal law & the police arrest you . You can make up anything that makes you feel better .. lawyers call it " something to hang your hat on " .. but it does not exempt you from either law . No matter who agrees to what , if YOU break the law .. they talk to You , not them . You might have some recourse with whoever signed the agreement between you & them , but that has no effect between you & whoever sues you or charges you criminally . Fact , not friction
  25. I have 2 Copams which will be 6 years old in June ( as far as use ) . I would think calling USC & asking them would get the best answer . I also think replacing a motherboard/control panel etc would be well worth what the cost would be ( you can have them ship the part 7 install yourself or someone local ) . I had all 4 pinch rollers break within a couple months in the 3rd year of use ... that has been the only problem .
