BannerJohn 1,324 Posted August 22, 2014 I love old buildings! What are you going to do to it in the way of fixing it up? Will you post 'after' pics?
Jay2703 704 Posted August 22, 2014 Looks like it has a lot of potential but needs lots of work.
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted August 22, 2014 It's not a lot worse outside than where I'm at now and the inside is wide open and solid. I'm toying with splitting the first floor into 2 spaces and renting the other one out but for now it's 53 x 58 ft of options. I'll post as we get started on it but like all things it will happen in stages as money allows since I absolutely hate borrowing from the bank.
BannerJohn 1,324 Posted August 22, 2014 If it was me I would turn the second floor into a few loft apartments and let the renters pay my bills
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted August 22, 2014 It just may end up being where I live never know. Morgage is cheaper than my current store rent and only a block away so my regulars will be happy.
Moody Blue 505 Posted August 22, 2014 Aweome Jaybird!! Im guessing this somewhere in our great Palmetto State?

jaybyrd 3,770 Posted August 22, 2014 Aweome Jaybird!! Im guessing this somewhere in our great Palmetto State? North, SC south of Columbia.
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted August 22, 2014 I looked for 6 months and ended up 1 block from where I'm at now. Sounds like fate at work and the price was too low to pass up.
Sue2 920 Posted August 22, 2014 What a great old building! Love all the brickwork trim. What does the rest of the neighborhood look like? A coffee house would be a nice renter! Keep us updated. Sue2
Sue2 920 Posted August 22, 2014 You know...looking around even here, there are no buildings being built that anyone would want to save or preserve in 50 years! Now the buildings are being consturcted on the cheap with no style. You have a rough GEM there....see if you can get historic tax credits for the remodel. Many towns are offering them now....or check if there is a Preservation Organization active in your town. Sue2
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted August 22, 2014 Town of 800 people and honestly there is no civic initiative here. If not purchased it would have set there until it fell from age. It looks worse than it is. Used to call it paint and polish when I rehabbed apt. houses years ago.
slice&dice 2,450 Posted August 22, 2014 Is it haunted? I like the tree growing right out of the facade. Is there off-road parking within the property (in back?)
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted August 22, 2014 If it's haunted they'd better find a new home quick. I think the tree in the middle was a great bargaining chip when it came to price. And there is a right of way out back that needs to be cleaned up but across the street is an open field that either belongs to the town of the post office so I should be good there. Moody Blue 505 Posted August 22, 2014 North, SC south of Columbia. Oh yes I am familiar with that. Very cool! Maybe ill stop in for a visit once you are up and running!
101LEDs 100 Posted August 22, 2014 Nice building, I could live in something like that. Going to convert the far right doors back to carriage style?
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted August 22, 2014 Gonna leave them steel for security and I have a contract with a golf cart co. to put a couple of their carts in the store on consignment so they'll work out great. Just inside of those doors is an old hand operated freight elevator. The place just has tons of character. I'll get some pics over the weekend while I'll taking measurements.
