Here is a good representation of what I was talking about with fonts being different. This is from a page in Butterick' Practical Typography. Just because one font says it's 12 pt does not mean it's literally 12 pt in height.

Typography is complicated and part of what AI is attempting to do is direct all the included info that comes with a font such as the kerning and line spacing etc, On top of that each font size is different so where you are punching in 2inches AI converts that to 144pts which is then put through the internal working to spit out the result but a quick look on the screen shows it's not 2" for the actual text. Attached is a pic of my screen showing what I mean. I typed the word text then in the size I wrote 2in and it increased the the size you see and tells me that it is at 144pt but if you look up to the right you can see it's says 2.174" and if you look at the ruler (I slid the text up to the top of my art board so the ruler would be in line) it's really not even 1.5 inches. So you can't go by the pts or the measurement in the upper box while it's live text. Once you have converted to outlines (now just objects) you can trust the upper box or in live text you can use the ruler and increase the pts until it's showing actual 2" on the ruler and that's what it will be when you convert it to outlines. I have e found that the size I build in AI according to the ruler is exactly what I get at output through my cutting program (I use SignCut Pro) It's dead nuts on.

Live text will always trick you. Best thing to do if it's important is either convert it to outlines or if you need the text live you can open a square the size of the letters you need and then size the font up to fit. I do the second when putting names and numbers on jerseys where they have to be a certain size but still need to type more. One thing you might do that I prefer (although it won'r help you with the current issue) is get rid of the bounding box. (I hate bounding boxes) View>Hide Bounding Box. I also set my preferences to "select object by path only". This way you don't accidentally keep clicking on the wrong things when working with a bunch of overlapped objects.

It so happens that USCUTTER support pages have changed. The downloads available are also in different locations now. This is a cached page containing the Hybrid version. The one with the cool 3-D geometric icon. http://support.uscutter.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/GetAttachment/190/24198 I know that people are asking all the time for a decent quick Fresh Install of a desiging/cutting manager software for their cutter. There is no better, quicker, more fun way than SignBlazer ELEMENTS. Any of the intro models of machines (MH< SC< LPII )will run flawlessly from any PC using SignBlazer. Thank You, Jerry Bonham, just, thank you. You understsood us novices so perfectly well. Your application stays tried and true over the long haul because you put so much into it. You've placed the entire concept of "Do-It-Yourself" signmaking into the heads of guys (and gals) like all of us. Yes, Jerry Bonham, you did it.

They are guessing what the customer might think. "Why did I pay $xxx for decals when they stick them on bags and give them away?". Sounds like you are selling shirts, so probably not an issue. To each their own.

Another trick is you can type your text and then scroll the screen over to the side so you can compare the text with the ruler and see what size it actually is. Similar to having a pre-sized box to compare to.

Not meant to "devalue" my work in any way - it's meant to brand my work.

Welcome to the forum! There is definitely a lot to it but it is something all of us have worked through over time. I like the previous advice and agree that your original pic would be a lot of work and if done with HTV would end up very thick and heavy feeling. Scarecrow's posted pic of a two color version is more lime what most of us do whenever possible. You can even punch out the white areas and let the original shirt color show though if the colors work out. There are a lot of facets to the business but it's very enjoyable and profitable if you have any marketing skills at all. Lots of good advice here and most any question you have has been asked so grab a cup of hot chocolate and spend a weekend reading posts and watch some youtube and you will soon be tuned in and feeling lore confident.

Here's a raster, 2 color version to take to your principal; Practice auto-tracing and cutting it to sell him on some shirts.

Another good reason for having this software is the Text-Along-Path feature, which SignBlazer doesn't handle (it is greyed-out in the Elements version we use, because it was an item only for the HotShot/Pro version). And, unlike SCAL, the VMC program allows for multiple lines of text by just hitting the ENTER/RETURN key. I never understood why SCAL did not get that.

Guessing it'd be cheaper to outsource print vinyl and stick it on regular magnets,
