OWJones 1,981 Posted June 25, 2016 I know it's been entirely too long for me. I'm doing a full back up of all my business related folders - fonts, clipart, invoices, cutomer designs, etc. Almost 148,000 files and 114 GB... Gonna be a while, even copying to a USB 3 hard drive...
Sue2 920 Posted June 25, 2016 Okay...you got my attention....I need to also. Maybe not a Global back-up of everything... but I'll work on several that haven't been saved in a while. Thanks for the poke! Sue2

Dawn's Design 403 Posted June 25, 2016 I try to keep all of my files & fonts on a external hard drive.
Sue2 920 Posted June 25, 2016 I try to keep all of my files & fonts on a external hard drive. Back up your external drives too! My last drive failure WAS the external back-up drive! My Seagate back-up drive failed and it took $100 and 24 hours to retrieve the files stored on that drive...even then, some were lost or damaged. Moral of the story, Back-up your Back-ups! You can't have too many back-ups. AND while you're at it...back up those flash drives...they fail too... or get lost...or fall into the toilet...or .................... Back-up your installed fonts too.....think what a pain it would be to find & re-install ALL your fonts. Sue2

Command 97 Posted June 25, 2016 Once a month to be honest, but I trust my SSD's not to fail. If you purchase a Crucial or Samsung Solid State Drive, they rarely rarely have problems if they are not DOA. At a cost of $50 for a 250gb SSD, its kind of hard not to go that route unless you do video etc.

Macon Innovations 228 Posted June 26, 2016 I just cloned my laptops hard drive to an external hard drive......So if anything ever happens I can replace the hard drive and back up everything from that external drive.....and it backs up everything, operating system and all
Go-C Graphics 856 Posted June 26, 2016 I've started saving everything to Icloud. $3 a month for 200gb. I also backup everything to a 128gb flash drive.
dcbevins 340 Posted June 26, 2016 I have two 4tb external drives. A program called FileHamster backs up critical files to one of them real time. It maintains a revision history on artwork. The other I use to back up the first, but compressed to allow for incremental backups. I keep the second 4tb disconnected unless I am backing up, so malware can't see it. If the main system dies, I'll just start from scratch. I find it to much effort to maintain a mirror of the whole system.
busterbay 326 Posted June 26, 2016 I use onedrive works great all of my computers are synced. I also have a local network I backup to.
KYSIGN 233 Posted June 26, 2016 I have local hdd/flash drives and cloud storage. I also recommend backing up to some read only media such as CD or DVD to protect against crypto attacks/ransomware. I have never personally had my files ransomed but it can also affect your backup drives if they are attached while infected. Just remember that DVD and CD backups have a shelf life and should be replaced regularly.
Command 97 Posted June 26, 2016 https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-stats-q1-2016/ Check out this data from an online storage company about the failure rate of OEM mechanical drives in a high use environment. It pretty much mirrors what I have seen in my personal experience. Seagate drives (especially external) are prone to failure. That's why they are not warrantied for long at all. Backblaze has these drives very well cooled. Your normal external drive runs a lot hotter and that decreases the longevity markedly.
FrznFire07 217 Posted June 27, 2016 we use IDrive Backup, we backup our entire network every night. That's in addition to running mirrored HDD's. if one ever fails you just switch to the alternate put a new one in, and it automatically rebuilds your data.
