I just bought a MH-365 to learn on to hopefully create some decals for a restoration project currently going on. I'm sure I'll pick a few brains here to help me over a few hurdles on my learning curve. Using a well endowed laptop win7 with Inkscape as my import graphics editor. Using SCAL3 as my cutting software.

Take care. -robert

Good morning, robert.

That's really an unnerving and disturbing avatar you chose.

Like Clockwork Orange.

By the way, what are you restoring?

Slice, I'm retired and just sold my 1941 Studebacker Champion street rod. I was looking for another project and stumbled across a Yamaha ATV made in 1989. What caught my eye is that it had a PTO on the rear of it. After much research I found out Yamaha only made it one year. There has never been another ATV made with a PTO to this day. I drove from Nashville to Memphis and bought it with a matching FM-48 finish mower which trails behind it. The mower is what I'm duplicating the decals on. Let's see if I can post a few pictures of it. Mind you, the Terrapro did not look this good when I bought it. It underwent a four month restoration. If you where to Google Yamaha Terrapro you will see numerous pictures. I also have the FM-48 finish mower, RM-42 brush cutter and a very rare TC-38 garden tiller. I recently purchased a second Terrapro that came with the brush cutter and tiller. My second YFP350U and attachments have not been restored. I will be reproducing the decals on my MH-365 for all the implements. -robert

Here are some of the decals I will be making from scratch. I'lll take a good Hi Def pic of each and clean them up in Paintshop Pro then run them thru Inkscape and finally in SCAL3 Pro.

Welcome, also from Tennessee here, Kingsport.  You may have some issues with some of the decals you posted as they are printed not cut.

Not really issues, they are indeed printed. I will print the decal base on special waterproof vinyl paper and laminate them with UV clear gloss laminate. The rest I plan to cut and layer. I can't afford to have these custom made at a sign shop which would cost more than my investment so far in vinyl cutting equipment.

Now that is cool. Never even heard of that let a lone seen one. Like chipperi sad they were printed originally and if you decide to go that route again there are some great printers on here that would be glad to do it after you get done with the redraw work. Never hurts to try it in cut vinyl first though.

Thanks for the tip Jaybird. Those special printers are pricey. I already bought some Papilio white waterproof paper and Papilio UV clear I'm going to try first.

Hello and Welcome,  great project you got there.  I just had some decals printed for a Millermatic 200 welder.  I just duplicated them in Flexi sign, converted them into a pdf file and took them to the local graphics printer.  they printed, contour cut and laminated them for $12.50 each.  they are 20" x 2 1/4".  I cut the white decals.

Doug, did you provide artwork or a photo of what you needed?

The local sign shop close to me never heard or couldn't use an SVG file. I've already created the banner for the front and side decals. The problem I'm facing is the FM-48 has a black border around it. Trying to figure out how to deal with that. Whether to overlay or seperate with a shadow border and cut the colors with a narrow border between them. I'll post the SVG file. I'm still on a learning curve with both Inkscape and SCALP3.

Both are seemingly easy to use. The black border around the letter and numbers is a layer. I would like the border to lay flat instead of layer over the red vinyl. Once I learn that technique I will use it on several equipment logos. The original decal I believe the black border was printed on the vinyl. When it peeled off it had a silver backing and was quite thin.

Yes I provided artwork.

I was able to find the font that Miller used in the logo and redraw the entire artwork.  I then converted it to a PDF which I gave to the print shop and they printed it out on white vinyl.  The print shop also laminated it with a matte finish UV clear vinyl.  They came out great.

I can see from your photos that all the decals were printed because the Yamaha on the FM-48 is faded back to white.  I opened your artwork and had a look.  since I don't have SCALP or Inkscape I used Flexisign to add a black border around the FM-48.  I also used the FM 48 and the RC-42 to grab colors from.

I would have the FM-48, black Border and red graphic printed and cut the Yamaha and the blue graphic provided I could find the correct blue.

Here's both colors.

Why doesn't the quote work?

Much appreciated. I did play around with Inkscape a bit today and redid the logos. I also added registration marks to line up the black text in the white background. The white won't actually be white but the color the machine is painted. The black will lay inside the white background cutout so it will be flat. This way if I decide to clear over it. Now each layer has a reg mark which I added a couple of stars not at the top but partially towards the sides. Here's what I came up with in SCALP3. You can clearly see I have three layers with reg star to line them up. The black fits inside the blue lettering box. I've learned a lot lurking and hate to ask dumb questions. -kid
