Thank you so much everyone. Origin point worked great, and now I know where to start the vinyl... at the cut groove I was above that by a couple inches. So very appreciative

I ended up the "winner" in this situation. I never did get a check from the guy and when I asked my brother, he said "Oh, he said he'd give me $20 cash next time I see him".... so when it came time to pay up my share of the family cell phone bill, I shorted him $20 and told him to get it from that guy... My brother said, "But I don't know when I'll see him again!" and I replied, "you're the one that thought this deal was acceptable - you live with it."...

Bingo, that's what I'm talking about, Primal. Those photos show the feature for selecting either WYSIWYG or Origin Point, and it can't be WYSIWYG or else the cutter carriage will travel and the vinyl will feed, to match the layout coordinates of the graphic (or texts) that are placed on the mat, which is NOT what you want, normally. Now, if this really solves the issue (which we hope it does), then we're owed some gold stars!

You could always buy a PCI serial expansion card for the computer, Newegg.com has one that works with Win8.1 for about $20.

There should be a simple and easy solution for getting the cutter to START at the default origin (lower right-hand corner) and not go searching for any other point on the vinyl. So, in the interest of being helpful, I just decided to download the trial version of SCALpro and see if I can track down the setting that needs to be selected in the cutter setup screen. Well, the program would not run, and provided me with this cute little failure message ------

LOL @ everyone that says get away from SCAL. Really.... What's the big deal? I have zero issues with it and can complete most jobs as quick or quicker than in any other program.

I have a great suggestion -- get away from SCAL. http://support.uscutter.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/GetAttachment/190/24198 (use Copam CP-2500 driver)

true but with the cost of materials a and add a couple of misprints in at $5 I wouldn't offer them. I know every area is different - selling the printer and watching others - one just sold in NC for $8,000. checking printers within 300 miles and there is almost none out there in this are on cl, e(*&, etc and was thinking that tax time they always go up about $1K as money gets looser but with short supply maybe I am leaving a lot on the table. lots of them out there with a lot of issues that are played down but not much ready to rock and roll. do geography plays a big roll in the price you can get for anything using Bandit Darvils logic on smarts (works for price too) "how smart you are depends on where in the country you are standing right now" (not a direct quote but close - same goes for price - price depends on where you are at - at a given time ok actual quote but you get the idea " When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the country you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are. "

To tell a truth, I rarely send any kind of file right back to people or they will figure out it was just three clicks of a mouse button. I do the work and let it sit for at least a few hours, sometimes till the next day. Same goes for design changes when building a new logo for someone. They have a perceived value in the design work and rarely value the costs of the program and training that it takes to do it so I don't mess that perception up by giving too fast of results. Helps keep the price up there where it should be.

Lol My wife's cousin asked me to do him some shirts (htv). I kept telling him a price but he kept playing it off like he didnt hear me. He brings me the shirts that he wanted and told me he'll buy me lunch. It was 5 shirts. So what I did was just cut it out and told him "you weed it and press it". He messes up a few shirts while pressing it....oh well! Btw I ordered a big lunch lol I dont know why family is like that....

"A good cutting program that will cut the centers of letters before the rest can also increase success." That, my friend, is a terrific piece of advice. As it happens, SignBlazerElements does indeed contain such an option, but it never occurred to me to use it when getting tiny. Makes sense, of course, because the vinyl is tight and fresh and those infinitesimal cuts will be better. Thanks for the heads-up ! I learn something valuable here every day.
