slice&dice 2,451 Posted May 31, 2013 There was a promise of billions of cicadas coming out all over the place. Where are they?
skarekrow 1,842 Posted May 31, 2013 Here's a tracking project, if you're interested... http://project.wnyc.org/cicadas/ Haven't heard any yet but will keep an ear out for them.
skarekrow 1,842 Posted May 31, 2013 This is plenty disgusting for us in the Western Hemisphere; http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2013/05/29/187064786/cooking-with-cicadas-no-weirder-than-eating-cheese
smokeybearfan 87 Posted May 31, 2013 The cold weather has them in hiding still. Once the ground warms up they will crawl out to sing.

mabscotthandyman 1,410 Posted June 3, 2013 Last time they were out here you couldn't hear your self think . Like Smokey said I belive it is the cold we had this spring . Hell there was snow flurrys at snowshoe resort on mothers day . I was doing a job at a bank 50 miles north of where I live in Nicholas county on mothers day and wore a jacket all day and run heat in the truck coming back. Rodger 527 Posted June 3, 2013 I remember coming down RT 79 near Fairmont last time the cicadas were here . I was driving a 18 wheeler and had my wife with me. At times I could not see out of the windshield because of squarms . I had major amounts of bugguts to scrape off . I especially remember the deafining noise . They were bad in Maryland , but not as many as in West Virginia .
BearlyRich 167 Posted June 4, 2013 Why not make a few thousand cicada decals and stick 'em up all over the place? And for Rodger, you could even make pink ones! They've never been that bad up here thank goodness...
Rodger 527 Posted June 4, 2013 Hi Bear .... I was wondering when you were gonna come out of hibernation ...
skarekrow 1,842 Posted June 4, 2013 Bear said, "Why not make a few thousand cicada decals and stick 'em up all over the place?" I think I'll do just that! Reminds me of something I recently did... There's an anteater going on the front. (similar to this mock-up) And no, it's not an extermination company. The guy just wanted them on his truck.

BearlyRich 167 Posted June 5, 2013 Love those ants! Great job! But now I'll have to find some other odd insect to place all over my van... So, who's printing the cicada decals? Rodger: not hibernating. Just working too hard and burning out what little brains I had left...
slice&dice 2,451 Posted June 5, 2013 Those little creatures were hatching to the south of here -- we had the previous brood, so this gang is hitting other areas.
