    Price check on cut vinyl

Yeah thanks for all the information. I will know a little more next week and also what he wants for the security patrol car.

What would you charge for this?

Good work getting the vinyl evenly spaced around the wood trim. That looks like it would be a pain.

    t-shirts

I was blown away that after getting registered with Alpha and Bodek that their prices were the same or higher then Jiffy shirts. Anyone can order from them and they are fast and have good quality stuff.

Yeah thanks again I grabbed that file a while back. Thats cool, you did something really meaningful for him then. I honestly get disappointed if people aren't excited about the work I have done for them.

cutting with mat and final project

I got excited the other day when I saw the engraving kits but the first thing that I thought of was the wear on the cutter. There has to be additional wear on the cutting head and motor because of the extra pressure and possible vibration. I also wonder about dust getting everywhere and causing trouble in the cutter. Theresat, I like your setup. I can see this saving time especially if you are cutting out multiple layers or colors of small stuff.
  6. Hey guys, A female member of my family that I will not name accidently broke the USB port on my cutter. I read a thread about another member that got a replacement but I am wondering if anyone has soldered theirs. I am sure this has happened to other people because the port is not very well supported. Thought I would ask

    Price check on cut vinyl

Thanks xpaperman the linear price is easier than what I have been doing. I bought 10 yard rolls to keep my initial inventory costs down I paid more than you. I'm looking at .83 cents a linear foot for the 24" 651 so x6 is $5 a linear foot. I'm not looking at my notes but I think it would be about 17 linear feet for the text and logo so $85, is that what you are saying? I really haven't had much business yet and everything I have done has been for friends with friend prices. Oh and my measurements are for the material needed to do the job including waste, there won't be much of any scraps left because of the lay out though.

Wives??...I was told to come up with a magnetic sign for..

Here in California helmets have to be DOT approved and if a Highway patrol officer checks and doesn't find the DOT label you will get a ticket.

    LaserPoint USB port

I have read more about the adapters and you are correct, lots of people on her vouching for the Keyspan. I can't install my adobe creative suite on any more computers so I can't use them on my desktop where the cutter is. I just really get annoyed having to transfer files back and forth every time I need a different program, I waste enough time getting distracted already. I played with the offset a bit and tried .10 which improved the cut. Then moved to .20 and the quality went down. There were wavy edges and weird corners, so I went back to .10 offset. It's still not perfect but I have not had any more issues with the cutter stopping since going pack to the serial port connection on the desktop computer.

    Price check on cut vinyl

Talked to the customer again this afternoon and he wants me to do the vinyl on a security patrol car as well. I am meeting with him next week to go over the lay out but I need to be able to tell him a price. I don't know why I am having such a difficult time grasping the concept of vinyl pricing, geez.

cutting with mat and final project

I have seen kits on ebay to fit a flat cutting mat on a vinyl cutter like that, wasn't sure what it was for though. So if I understand you correctly, you are placing three different colors of vinyl on the cutter at the same time and then just manually move the cutting head in between cuts? I can see how this might be helpful when using small scrap pieces.

Looks great man I really like the mower, mind telling us how long the mower took to weed and layer?

    Price check on cut vinyl

The labor charge is for installation only. I have been pricing my vinyl sales separate from the installation. All the text is white 651 and the logo is 3 colors.

Wow the detail on both of the plates is excellent!

Finally put vinyl on my suburban. This was going on a window at my shop but it was a little too big and I really need to advertise on my vehicle too. I haven't come up with any great ideas yet but I want to go real big on my suburban.

A memory upgrade on the machine or the computer? I can see upgrading the laserpoint but my laptop has 6 gb of ram already.

Oh yeah, almost direct sunlight ha ha. It didn't seem to bad on the drive there but there wasn't really a place to move her car that would work I figured I could just wing it but it ended up being a pain. She is a friend of mine and I went to her house when she was available. Normally I would not do that and have the customer bring their car to my shop where I have covered parking and in the morning when it's cooler. The fluid I have is called action tac, have a big jug of it, seems to be ok but it's the only one I have used. The economy is definitely better than it was but still very slow. Housing prices are still pretty low and great if you can buy right now.

Customer wants it done like this.

This is a good example of when a well written document would save you a ton of trouble. An order form, invoice, agreement, whatever you call it. Have what the customer requested written on it with a disclosure and statement of liability release because the warranty does not cover this type of installation. Get it signed before you start and no problemo. I like to include "once the form is signed there is no cancelations" that way I don't add a heap of cut and taped vinyl to my inventory.

Ha ha, I'm sure they already have camo undies.

    LaserPoint USB port

Yeah my com settings are already set to your recommendations. I have since hooked up the old desktop with the serial cable again and have not had any issues with the cutter. I do need to dial in the settings a little better, on small detail stuff I am getting some over cut marks and some pieces that are still attached. I don't think I ever changed the offset with the old board, I'll have to look it up and mess with that next. I did by a usb to serial cable adapter and thats how I was using my laptop to cut. It is not a keyspan, which I believe actually controls the flow? At least I was able to finally cut out a rear window piece and real estate sign runner that have been waiting. I also started working on my company stuff for my truck, shop, and street sign, finally!

    Just not in the mood

You got a hobby? I realized a long time ago by watching my Dad that it is very important to have an activity to look forward to. He worked long hours as a mechanic and spent his weekends traveling around the state to sell guns at gun shows. Burned him out! after a decade of that I think he finally snapped and dropped the gun business and started competition shooting for fun. Made a huge difference in his personality.

    LaserPoint USB port

Alrighty, I got the settings dialed in and started right off on a larger piece that has been waiting at my shop. Started cutting no problem but when it got about 12 inches into the vinyl the machine froze and displayed "waiting" on the lcd screen. I know I have read something about this on the forum but I can't seem to find the threads now. ARG, I already wasted a foot of this 24" 651 doing all the test cuts.

    LaserPoint USB port

It's alive! Oh man am I glad my cutter is working again. The settings are off and I was not able to retrieve the settings I had with the old board. For some reason the cutting blade was down way to far, not sure how that happened. Well I adjusted the blade and the test cut rectangle isn't connecting at the last corner so I will continue to mess with this thing. Thanks for all the support guys.
