For any of you that may be interested After enough prodding, some begging and then a some help from Jay, I took the cover off the graphtec again. He gave me a tip on a test to try to possibly confirm or shoot down what the problem might be. (as it turns out, graphtec diagnosed it wrong). After the test, a light bulb appeared above my head and I had a new out look for this beast. It turns out, the pen block WAS NOT BAD!! Once that was determined, I took the top and side off this baby as I was diving in now. It seems the magnet was NOT getting power as I had originally thought.... so at this point I was focusing on the thin, flimsy ribbon wire that went to the magnet. After jacking with that for a bit and determining that is was fine, I starting looking around and contemplating. I thought I would just check all connections and worst case maybe try to buy a replacement board for the cut head. I moved on from the cutter head ribbon wire and will letting my eyes wander I noticed the big flat ribbon wire coming from the main board to the cut head board looked kind of funny where it attaches to the cut head board. It appeared to not be seated right. I removed the end and properly reinserted it to seat it properly and decided to run the test mode..... Viola!! Last night I purchased a blade holder for it online (remember it didn't have one) and while I am at it will be replacing the cutting strip (just because) and ..... and I guess sell it. (after I play with it for awhile to see how I like a graphtec compared to this SC. I might just take the money and buy a smaller graphtec. This 60 incher is a beast. I was at the local sign shop the other day and they do all their work with a 24 inch. To wrap it up.... I can not convey how impressed I am with this forum, the community here is awesome. Sometimes I don't understand why so many people with so much experience, hang out here to keep helping the new people with the same problems over and over. At times I witness them going over and above (in my opinion) to help people. Like doing art work for them (because sometimes it is just faster and easier) to doing research for them to help with a problem. I don't see how some of you find the time to spend so much time here, all hours of the day to help. So, hats off to all of you that help out around here, but for the purpose of this particular thread and problem, I big thank you to Jay, who could not seem to get a good nights sleep until he either got a hold of my Graphtec (I think that was the main drive) or at least got it to work. His prodding at me got me out of my chair messing with it. Thank you Jay!! Our messaging back and forth is one of those things I mentioned about going above and beyond. You didn't have to do that but you did.

You'll be suprised at the way a graphtec cuts. As you said "QUIETER". Once you get it dailed in the fine detail cuts will amaze you. I think you will be hooked!!

He was delivering in FL when I saw it on tv. Bet if I offered to do it free in exchange for a big Jays Place logo he'd be all over it.

We'll get along fine so long as you stay in GA and leave SC alone

If you put a laser on it, I'll buy it. I'd buy a laser guided laser pointer if they made one...

Maybe I'm reading too much into the quotes around 'decals', but it sounds like you're implying that someone who only cuts decals isn't as good as you are. I doubt that is exactly what you're trying to say, but that is how I read it... and as someone who's primary business is cutting decals, I have an issue with that... You do cut decals... you just pre-install them on a substrate before you deliver them to a customer... Thankfully all of the other sign businesses where I live have that same mentality, so I'm able to pick all the low hanging fruit that they're too good to pick for themselves. There is plenty of money to be made in small quantity and/or small size decals - there isn't the huge markup like there is signs and banners, but I make more than enough to keep myself going. I have numerous repeat customers who come back and send their friends to me after the "real sign companies" have turned up their noses at their simple 'decal' jobs.

I usually add 50% for second color and I also like 651 and have never had a complaint on fleet lettering. Some on here will insist that you must use cast on vehicles but most of these that we letter will either be redone in 5 or 6 years due to abuse or design changes so I can't justify the extra expense for cast and neither do my customers when given the option.

I say what I said to start with, dispute with cc or paypal, whichever applies if you feel that you have been mistreated in this matter. They have buyer protection for a reason.

I have a retail location and over 40,000 cars pass by daily, they all see my sign that announces I do signs. BTW, I don't cut 'decals' I produce finished signs.

I finally got a chance to see his new van, being flatbedded to Florida. It's a twin to the 1 I lettered, maybe he should stop by on his way through SC and get that thing lettered properly.

Here is my first attempt at a logo for myself. Not sure if I like it or not. The Scissors has a personal meaning so I tried to work them in. Not sure if it ties in right with vinyl cutting etc for a logo. Input Please. Thanks

I've never bought or sold a business, but I do listen to the Clark Howard Show and the Dave Ramsey Show, and the general rule of thumb I've heard mentioned is 3 times the annual revenue is a fair starting price for an existing business. If the business has lots of good will and repeat customers the annual revenue should be high - if it doesn't, then the revenue will be low. Are you looking to buy or sell?

Thanks for the advice! Was planning to go ahead and order a couple new ones soon, so I'll save this link so I don't have to go fishing for it when the time comes Since this thread is a combo of my work and my problems with the old cutter, figured I'd go ahead and add a pic of what I did accomplish in the middle of working out the issues (or trying to) with the Mimaki. Hope to have lots and lots of new work to add soon, though!

I think it looks pretty good. If it were me I would lose the mouse all together but that is just personal preference and not an educated advertising tip (I aint edumacated).
