    Used Mimaki cutter/ new titan

as I was researching the mimaki I followed a link and found 1 of the rebadged or whatever graphtecs, 1st time I saw that. 1 is on ebay now for around 400, also found a lynx which seemed to also be a servo cutter for that price. def those prices look good, but I definitely will be waiting and getting exactly what I want this time, if I ever figure out what it is I want. lol. I keep playing with the idea of buying something inexpensive in the 28" size to use mobile or take to the house that would get very lil use. but there if I need it. actually called on a SC on cl for $100 a couple weeks ago. and it seems I'm like a few others on here, have a hobby or business and buy, sell or trade equipment and such . with other things ive always just done that till I got whatever I was looking for. In the original owners manual with the mimaki cutter is his purchase receipt along with all the shipping info from when he ordered it. I don't rem exactly when he purchased it right now. I was originally looking at it in dec I think. being a newbie from this post I learned another new thing." tangential cutting" never saw this mentioned before or just over looked it. so I do believe this should be an option for my upgrade. that's 1 of the great things about this forum. I almost learn something new every time I get on. but really no more than I'm doing and my skill set this SC should last me forever. lol.I have definitely started pushing this side of our business more, even ran a few ads. its just big and noisy. . wasn't ever supposed to be out in the store ft. was setting up a work area in the back room. but right now I'm setting up a small workspace up ft. makes it easier for me to help the wife watch over the store. so something in that size and less noise would be awesome. that's the reason I keep thinking about grabbing something like this cutter I'm asking about now versus waiting.

    Used Mimaki cutter/ new titan

i was hoping to hear from someone that had used or seen both in action. I'm looking at a CG-60sl . I will look and see if this model does that. which model does he have? I have noticed software is almost like the ford / chevy opinion. I have both. vinyl master that came with my cutter and scalps 4. I started with VM so somethings seem easier in it, then it seems on some stuff I get a lot better cut using scalps. so I use scalps more. @Primal Decals is the 1 that started teaching me on scalps. he designs most of his stuff in illustrator, then cuts in scalps. he also has a titan 2 and is pleased with the machine. I noticed the saga was the same machine. I'm looking to upgrade to a servo cutter, mine is cutting so no real rush. I'm not going to jump in as I did with my 1st cutter without doing my homework and talking to people that have used the cutters I'm interested in. don't get me wrong, my SC has served its purpose. and its not a terrible cutter. noisy ! but it does the job. It was mainly purchased so a newbie could do his business sign. and to let the cutter pay for its self. to this day I still haven't tried to cut a design in 2 pieces , and really haven't cut anything bigger than 36" since my sign wildgoose, that's what I figured. can almost buy 2 titan 2s for the cost of a roland.
  3. You came to the right place for info. lots of wisdom on here. I have learned 80% of what I kno on here. and prob 70% from @Primal Decals as both of them have already said, no 2 cutters are the same. but I guess it can be a starting point. I have a sc cutter, I'm running speed at 300 and pressure depends. I go by how its cutting. The I watched a video on how to set the blade depth had me set the blade to where it would only cut threw 1 sheet of paper on a pack of sticky notes. then I adjust pressure from there. just as mentioned above u want it lightly cutting the backing.
  4. whats funny is I said several times it works in scalps, so I don't think its a cable issue. I'm still a rookie so what do I know. But guess what....... it wasn't . lol. I figure it might be a good thing if they know how to fix this issue in the future. I wouldn't keep beating this dead horse if this wasn't the 3rd or 4th time ive called in and after the conv. hung up pissed. this time tho me hanging up pissed cost them a lil. I called in last month asking about adding the extended warranty to my cutter before the warranty ran out, well was supposed to be called back on that. never happened so I asked about that. next, I buy myself a bday gift every yr since I always know what I really want. lol. if someone wouldn't have been a jerk and making this be like every other time I call in, I was ordering the titan 2 after we discussed the issue. every time this happens I tell myself its going be the last. then the low prices on sale items, or on vinyl reel me back in. my last couple just vinyl orders went to a local dist because of it. so now I'm looking harder for vinyl suppliers and maybe instead of the titan I may go with Graphtec or Roland since they are offered by others. but on a pos note, future support was quick to contact me. I didn't think I would get that quick of response. I think it was midnight here. I didn't bother checking my email after sending in the ticket. when I checked the next morning, someone responded within 5 min of the ticket being sent. so it was 11 am here when I responded, still another quick response. so gotta say those guys are on top of it
  5. I know should use a shorter cable. And US cutter send the length cord they recommend. but that just doesn't work the way I have to set up my work space right now. when I 1st bought my cutter it worked fine using a 16' usb cable. but then stopped. I thought it was the cable. replaced it, but still no luck. so I started using the cord US sent. later I switched to scalps 4 to cut with. now I'm re doing the work area, but still a long cable would make placement of cutter better. I bought a 3.0 powered hub and hooked the 16' cable back up. scalps works fine. so I checked to see if that was the issue of why VM stopped. it still will not connect. so what gives? why will scalps work and VM wont?
  6. I mustve been having a slow day. lol hate we spent so much time researching other things. but I did learn a few things. I figure the stuff we found would make things better wonder why the dude at ( cough cough wont mention where) didn't come up with that? lol
  7. fixed. had to search com ports
  8. That's the reason I was trying this again, bought an anker powered hub. I called US and they told what I posted above. but I will try that
  9. You wouldn't believe all this dude does for me. Cant say enough positive/praise for Primal.

    newbie

welcome aboard. Primal is def a GREAT friend to have in your corner, I'm sure u have prob already figured this out by now since he is the 1 that invited u here.but by no means am I lowering any of the guys and gals on here. I have learned a lot in the past 9 or 10 mnths from being on here from all of them. I was brand new to this world and all but comp. illiterate. all I used a comp. for was surfing and emails. Primal has went way out of his way of helping and spending who knows how much time now teaching me, I met him on here shortly after joining, but its like we have been friends for yrs.

Editing artboards in illustrator for cutting

that's another subject that has been discussed over and over on here. I too am a newbie with limited resources and learning as building up my business. later I am also looking to get into a printer. with that being said do a search on here and you find a good link showing a comparison of the roland combo printer/cutter verses having separate printer and cutter. the 2 units out preformed the the combo. but I guess that again is 1 of those things that is whatever the user prefers

    Translucent on vehicles?

I have a bunch of trans. vinyl here if you would like to see how it worx. I can send u a some to sample. like others said the color it is on will change it. it changes color mounted on the white lexan, and when it is backlit I didn't see any trans. vinyl being sold by the ft. so I had to buy rolls to my sign. plus I figured I was jumping n to this with both feet, hopefully I would use it on customers signs.

    Confused about printing on vinyl

I found Papilio website awhile back and meant to ask about their products. I ordered cartridges and ink for my Epson months ago. I google the subject whenever I have spare time. I think that was 2 mins worth in feb.
  18. I don't think size is the issue either. Ive cut some .300 letters with no issues other than weeding with bad eye sight. lol. and 110% agree about the knowledge on here. I would say 95% of what I know ive learned from here, or from whom ive met on here. so 75% coming from him.
  19. well theres an issue I haven't encountered. even after buying a cheap roll of app tape off of amazon. issue I had with it was the app tape not realizing the decal. but that was a clear tape and me trying it the 1st time for a wet apply. that 1 is still hanging on the shop fridge for a reminder. I have about all my newbie mistakes stuck somewhere around the shop as reminders. greenstar paper tape came with my cutter, along with some transfer rite . now ive bought all different brands of tape for different material and to learn what works best for me. I like the clear for displaying decals in the shop, to me shows off the decal better. but like several have posted, u will have better luck with the paper tape. especially with wet apply.( just come by and checkout my fridge. lol) no matter which tape is on the decals I sell at the shop, I go over the application process with the customer. At that time I re - squeegee the tape as I'm showing them the process. seems to worked so far.

    HELP!!!! PLEASSEE!!

starting, trying another new venture with this biz/industry. someone please school me/teach/explain the difference in masking/stencil paint mask. wanting to start making some vintage signage or something similar to sell in the shop. ive read , but sometimes I read/research to much and seem to confuse myself. lol. I would be pulling my hair out by now, but I'm follicly challenged. I'm looking at oramask 810, 811, 813 even some of the greenstar.... 7000 most signs I plan to brush paint with latex. while others I'm thinking enamel spray paint. I need to quit being lazy and post pics of some of things I have been experimenting with
