How do you display your decals
darcshadow replied to CajunCustom's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
I would guess he has taken a photo of the computer then just puts his decal over the image. That's what I've done before with some windows. If done right you really can't tell that it's "not real". -
Is a decal same as Tshirt trademark.

I love Ebay would probably be ok so long as you did not use the ebay logo. University's and teams stuff are all trade marked or copyright, doesn't mean people won't make stuff illegally, or possibly buy the permissions to make stuff. -
Well for some reason Inkscape is crapping out on me when I try to save it as and EPS. I was able to save it as a PDF, maybe that will work for you? Also, there is a portable version of Inkscape you might be able to use. You can install it on a thumb drive and do not need admin rights to do it. So technically you're not installing a program, you're just running it. LOGISTICS-BRANCH INSIGNIA with texture.pdf

I was able to open it with Inkscape. LOGISTICS-BRANCH INSIGNIA with texture.svg

Here's a ruff trace, needs some work. hands.svg

I would suggest either trying to trace it manually using the bezier tool or pull the image into a photo editing program separate out the hands, darken them up, then trace the new image in inkscape and put the hands back together.

That's probably trade marked but you should be able to find a good image online that you can turn into a silhouette pretty easily.

I played around with that a little once. I had to create a batch file to send the HPGL file to the plotter and it did work. However the HPGL file created by inkscape is exactly what you see on screen. Cutting software adds a blade offset, over cut, and a few other tweaks so the plotter produces a good product.

Can Inkscape Separate a Vector Into Layers Like SCALP?
darcshadow replied to painperdu's topic in Inkscape
If you create multiple layers you can then just move items from one to another without the need to copy and paste. Select the object you want to move then hit Shift+Page Up or Shift+Page Down to move the object to the next layer above or below. -
I think that may vary depending on OS. I can plug it in when the PC is on, so long as I plug it into the same USB port it works just fine.

It's a common high school logo, there has to be a vector of it out there someplace, probably part of some collection. Pretty sure my HS used that exact one on lots of things.

Signblazer can do a conversion as well, although I never had any luck getting it to work right.

Why is the tag blocked on this forum? It'd be nice to link to images on other sites with out the need to save the image and upload it to this site. I'm guessing there is a reason, I'm just curious as to what it is.

I think I'd either get rid of the shadow on the text, or make the shadow dark enough that it appear inside the oval. Or maybe add a shadow to the oval to give the appearance that the oval and text are on the same level. As it stands, I see it as the text outside of the oval is on a higher level than the text inside the oval. Which could be the effect you're going for, but to me it just doesn't feel right.

Oh yeah, I forget about that option, it doesn't work for me from my work. I'll have to see if it works from home.

I think the problem is they are too pointy and symmetrical. I think something more like the nose holes of this one would work better. http://comps.canstockphoto.com/can-stock-photo_csp6996795.jpg

Needs some work, but here's a decent start. What I did was open the image in a photo editor and made it a simple black and white image then did an auto trace in Inkscape with the smooth corners option set to 0.75. symbol.svg

Is that the skull they currently use? If not I'd look for something else, that one looks like it has buck teeth.

I like the coal cart idea. If they want to keep the longhorn design, put it on the side of the above coal cart.

16min, very impressive. Would of taken me at least an hour and probably still wouldn't of looks as good.

631 can be removed and reused a few times but care has to be taken when removing it. I use it to "tape" up my headlights on my bike for track days. I can usually reuse it half a dozen times before it looses too much sticky.

When I've done typical house painting, if you put the tape/paint mask down, then paint the edges of with the original wall color, let it dry, then go back and paint the new color it will virtually eliminate all bleeding.

Is it possible to recreate a hand cut design for machine cutting?
darcshadow replied to 101LEDs's topic in General discussion
That's how I would do it. Good photo, take some measurements for reference, manual trace, cut the piece and see how it fits then adjust as necessary. -
Not a problem
