Is there an easy way to vectorize?

As others said, don't trace a font. From the image you posted however, looks like you also need to tweak your trace settings. It appears you were using either Color Quantization, or one of the Multiple Scans options. For a simple black and white image you want to use the Brightness cutoff. I usually start my threshold to 0.65 and the adjust as needed. Tweaking the items on the Option tab can help as well. But getting a good trace of a font is nearly impossible.

    Vector Art

Don't know how vinylmaster works but in Inkscape I'd duplicate the cart then inkscape a box behind it and then use the difference tool, called punch in some software, and subtract the card from the box. then just delete the left over portions of the box that I don't need. There may be a better/easier way, but without seeing the vector file it's hard to say.

some vector files for everyone to use

    Grabbed them, thanks.
  4. The bad firmware/checksum error is a plotter thing, nothing to do with windows. Have you tried downloading the firmware update again? Those error messages would indicate that the file you are trying to load is corrupted, or being corrupted during the load process.

Maybe tell us what cutter you have.

    Sticky yard Software

I like the putting measurements directly on the image, but I wouldn't count on them being very precise, to many places to introduce errors.

    Graphtec Ce5000-60 Freezes

It was mentioned earlier, but kind of died away. Is it possible it's a heat problem? Something in the plotter over heating and stopping the system?

    Removal

Goo Gone is safe on cars, aside from it saying so on their web page I've used it to remove sap from my vehicles a couple of times.

How do you convert a font to single line?

Can you post an example? What is the name of the font you are trying to use?
  10. Just try a couple small test cuts and check for yourself if the line moves. Seems like a pretty easy thing to check out.

    Ford Thunderbird

If you could post that as an eps or svg I'd be happy to play around with it and see if I can turn it into something usable.

Few things I have done these last days

Wondered about that one. Since it was his name would it be something that would be protected? Although I think it was just a stage name, not a legal name, so probably would be protected. Also that Kobe shield logo would be a nono as well.
  13. Interesting, wonder what exactly that is doing.

+1 on Dunlop and Showa logos as well Looks good though.
  15. I don't use that software but I'm curious about the exporting of the file. You say you export it at 90dpi, but if it's a vector, dpi shouldn't come into play. DPI, Dot per Inch is a raster image term, or at least I've never heard it in reference to vectors. Does DPI here mean something else?

Shouldn't that one be on the front so the protestors know to get out of the way? ha!

    Blade finishes off track

The laser has nothing to do with the cut/line not joining. The offset being discussed is the blade offset. The tip of the blade is not the center so to correct for this an offset is needed which is the measurement from the rotational center of the blade to the tip. Not something you can easily measure so you just made adjustments in the software till the cuts are good. Cutting a square is an easy way to tell. If the corner is a true square the offset is good. If the corner is rounded or has kind of a Z shape to it, the offset is off and needs to be corrected. There's a thread on here some place with an image that shows what I just described as well as tells you which one is too much and which one is too little, I can never remember.

And color, I do recall seeing some higher end plotters that held 3 or 4 pens.

    Origin or Work Space Margin

Advertising the cutter as a 28" cutter is a bit deceptive. True, it can fit 28"s of material, but the cutting area is only about 24".

    Scissors only help

Here's a quick manual trace, not entirely happy with the cutouts in the handle portion but not too bad. I also didn't blunt the scissor tips. I like the look of the sharp point better. scissors.eps

Dave, Actually if you install a pen in it, it becomes a plotter.

    Origin or Work Space Margin

Are you putting your vinyl/paper in the cutter so the edge of it is against the edge of the cutter? If so, don't. Line the edge of the vinyl/paper up with the blade, with a bit of a margin.

feeding vinyl, off roll or ?

Could be a dozen things. probably best to start a new topic asking for help. Be sure to identify cutter, software, and type of connection between cutter and computer. It may also be helpful if you can post the file you're trying to cut.

feeding vinyl, off roll or ?

You don't want the machine actually pulling the vinyl and unrolling it. Puts too much strain on the machine and can affect tracking. I set the roll on the rollers on the machine and then unroll how much I'll need and let it hang.
