    Wet Install question

So I've read up and watched who knows how many videos but I have not been able to get the wet install method to work as well as I feel it should. I'm using 651, paper tape, and Action Tac fluid and applying to glass. I spray a light misting onto the back of the decal as well as the glass, position the graphic and squeegee the hell out of it. I then let it dry, over night in some cases, but when I go to pull the application tape off I find that there is till some fluid under the graphic preventing it from sticking and it wants to peel up as I pull the tape off. I've tried pealing the tape off both dry and after rewetting but get the same results there is enough fluid under the vinyl that it prevents it from sticking to the glass. As I said, I squeegeed the hell out of it and can't imagine how I could squeegee any different to get more fluid out. Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong, or need to do different? Or is my problem a normal part of the wet application and something you just deal with and be very careful while pulling the app tape off? The thing that gets me, some parts of the design work great and the vinyl sticks well, but other sections don't and there doesn't seem to be any reason as to why.

    Taper cut...

Be sure to take you're own measurements of the glass, don't just go by the specifications. While close, the template wasn't exact using the specs of the glass. After taking my own measurements and adjusting the template things worked out a lot better.

    Taper cut...

http://forum.uscutter.com/index.php?/topic/43060-signs-onto-cone-shaped-items And if the glass you are using is the Libbey 1639HT-AM, this is the template I use with Inkscape. Libbey 1639HT-AM.svg

tips for vinyl not feeding straight

Just for reference, a credit card is about 1 millimeter thick, or about 40mils. So half a credit card, 20 mils, is about 8x thicker than a typical piece of vinyl.

Cant cut this to save my life!!

Opened it with Inkscape and only thing I saw funny was a couple of double nodes, one on the top of the right bean, and the in one of the corners of the coffee/straw. Neither of which should cause problems. Here's the file back after opening and saving with Inkscape. Shouldn't matter, but you never know, can't hurt to give it a try. coffee2.eps

    Ok you clipping mask experts......

I think he's wanting the red removed, and the black the same red as the hog.

    Ok you clipping mask experts......

I'd duplicate the S logo, remove the red, change the black to the color you want then put it under the masked hog.

tips for vinyl not feeding straight

check your pinch rollers, sounds like one or more may be loose and allowing the vinyl to slip a little.

    Nesting?

if you have left over backing cut your stencils, then use application tape to remove it from the original backing and stick it to your scrape backing from another job.

    Drill Seargent Badge

There's a pretty good gif version on the Wikipedia that would be good practice for manual tracing. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/4/4a/20090930203354%21DrillInstructBadge.gif

I've met several doctors and lawyers that make me feel smart. I just hope they know their job a lot better than they seem to know anything else.

    Outline/Expand problem with shapes

When I've run into this problem I switch over to Inkscape and rather than do an expand I add a stroke to the object, size it to what I want, then convert it to a path. A little bit of a round about way but it works.

    CBR logo help

With Inkscape you simply import the dxf file then do a save as and save it as an eps. Or post up the dxf file and someone on here will probably do it for you.

    Font Glyphs in inkscape ?

Might try using the font in Word and placing the glyphs there then copy and past into Corel or Inkscape. Don't know why the glyphs you want wouldn't show up though, are you sure they glyphs in question are in fact contained in the font?

    Wet Install question

Next time I'll do it I'll try just a light misting on the glass and see how that works for me. Thanks for the suggestions.

    tracing help needed

Assuming you're doing this for the school, you could try contacting them and see if they can give you a copy of the image to use.

    newbie ?

That's an inkscape thing. Inkscape doesn't really support eps so it converts everything to simple paths when it saves stuff as an eps.

    Glass etching

I've been looking at this one from Global Industrial. It's about the same size as the large Harbor freight one, maybe a little bigger, and is a single piece of rotationally molded plastic, so the only place for leaks is at the door. http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/tools/abrasives/sandblasting-tumblers/cyclone-e500-large-benchtop-blast-system

    Matte Black Reflective

I've seen it on some Ford Mustangs, so it does exist. No idea where to buy it though and I doubt Ford will tell you where they got it from.

    Backup option

I've been using the free version of that program for awhile but if you get to high of a file count or run it too many times it gives you a nag screen and says you've been using it too much and must wait like 30 days before you can run it again. I've since found FreeFileSync. It's 100% free and open source. Not quite as pretty AlwaysSync but it does pretty much the same thing. Also has a batch mode option that allows you to create a batch file that you can then set to run every time your computer starts up, or add it to the Windows schedule routine to run every so often.

EPS will not import into SB

If you can get it open in SignCut, you might try doing a select all, copy, and paste into SB. Don't know if it'll work with SignCut but it has worked for me going from Inkscape to SB.

    My latest piece of glass.

Wanted ducks and ended with a fish? That's a hell of a change. Looks great. Would love to see it after he installs it in the wall.
