Pretty Cool 3-D printing

Recommended Posts

864 sales in a year. Not too shabby. I'm sure most of them were lower priced items, but not all. You just never know what people are going to 3D print.

It will be interesting to watch and see if 3D printers eventually become as common place as inkjet and laser printers.

I have seen and considerered some economical CNC devices and several Laser cutters as THEY are in the 1K range in cost but holding pattern to see if its worth the headaches JUST like those 3D printers need to prove the economical cost versus a good unit unproven in usefulness....Just my thoughts only....

I would love a cheap 3d printer for personal use but they all seem to have poor reliability. It's always complaints about motherboard failure and/or extruder failure.

This is the one I got - it is not the world's greatest 3D printer, but it is solidly built and very tinkerable/hackable.

I got it when it first launched as part of a prerelease price deal, but even at $399 it's still pretty affordable.  I really haven't put the time and effort into it that I should have, but I've printed several small items that turned out well.

I purchase most of my filament from http://www.makergeeks.com/ - they're having a sale this weekend for 15% off of their in-house made filaments, use code "FLASH15" at checkout, their filaments are on this page - http://www.makergeeks.com/usamafi.html
