ACJ GRAPHICS 29 Posted April 19, 2014 when sublimating mugs and the like is it normal for the image or ink to bleed thru transfer paper? i see the image on the outside (or back) of the transfer paper? is this normal or i was thinking to much heat or pressed for to long? thanks
mr300s 1,272 Posted April 19, 2014 It will happen I take a piece of butcher paper and wrap around the mug on top of the transfer paper to keep the press clean
ACJ GRAPHICS 29 Posted April 19, 2014 It will happen I take a piece of butcher paper and wrap around the mug on top of the transfer paper to keep the press clean so then i'm doing it right?? woo hoo . that's a good idea !
djque 246 Posted April 20, 2014 Yeah it does that. its just the ink burning in the paper.
Dakotagrafx 7,297 Posted April 20, 2014 it turns to a gas so it will travel thru the paper and the reason we use protective paper on our presses- some paper does it more than others
MadHatterGraphix 1,258 Posted April 20, 2014 Oh yes it is normal specially if it's done with a mug wrap the wrap is so right the gas only has one way to go and that's through the paper. Like Mr300 said butcher paper and if you don't have that you can use computer paper it works just the same.
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted April 20, 2014 I you use computer paper double it up. It can get through 1 sheet trust me.
MadHatterGraphix 1,258 Posted April 21, 2014 I you use computer paper double it up. It can get through 1 sheet trust me. That is true specially the multi purpose paper for fax, inkjet, and laser.
jaybyrd 3,770 Posted April 21, 2014 I just use laser paper but on darker prints it'll bleed into the second sheet. Cheap insurance. Also use a fair amount of backing from vinyl and it does an excellent job.
djque 246 Posted April 21, 2014 I cut up a teflon sheet and use it when i do mugs.
OWJones 1,981 Posted April 21, 2014 I used parchment paper instead of computer paper, it does a good job of blocking any color leakage, and it's made to withstand temperatures higher than sublimation, so it doesn't brown or discolor, and it usually contains very little moisture, where as inkjet paper can get steamy when you press it...
Dakotagrafx 7,297 Posted April 22, 2014 discarded vinyl or laminate backing paper works great and is reused that way
