Bunky67 0 Posted March 16, 2014 I picked up a MH871 and I want to hook it up to my Dell which I already have a roland plotter connected to via Serial Port, Now I would like to hook up my MH871 to this same computer, I was thinking of running the MH871 via USB but have read of issues of the USB not being reliable. So my question is do I try the USB or can I buy a Switch box to switch between the two plotters via Serial cable?
mb20music 760 Posted March 16, 2014 I say try the USB connection and if you have problems, go serial.
MadHatterGraphix 1,258 Posted March 16, 2014 everyone ends up using the serial sometime. I have given up using the MH I get better cuts from the Silhouette Cameo unfortunately it only cuts up to 12".
Bunky67 0 Posted March 16, 2014 Well I will try the USB first then and if all else fails go to Serial for backup if necessary
Dakotagrafx 7,298 Posted March 16, 2014 add a serial card to the dell for a second serial port - will be much better as the mh has a pretty flaky usb to serial chipset internally
Bunky67 0 Posted March 17, 2014 OK so do I which would be best, a 9 pin serial or 25 pin Parallel?
