  2. I need a longer serial cable, but which one to buy? I want to use a serial connection for my MH871 MKII. I've owned 3-4 of these cutters, and realize that serial is the best connection. I moved my office location and thought it was time to buy a new cutter. After all, the other one has been in use for about 5 years. Not bad for a $300 machine. The 8' cable that came with the machine works fine, that is if I want to sit on top of it while in use. I have a U shaped desk, and need an 15 foot cable to extend around the desk. I tried to extend the cable with a serial cable from a previous MH871, but that didn't work. After much aggravation, I found that the second cable didn't work at all, even when used by itself. I read in one of the threads that a Null Modem Serial Cable is what I need, so I bought one. It doesn't work, either. Only the cable that came with the machine works. So.....which cable should I purchase? Scott

    USB to Serial

I understand there are already posts about this subject but I am getting NO WHERE... I bought the adapter I have drivers updated and when I open Sure Cuts A Lot Pro 3 and go to test it the program freezes and shuts off... What is it that I am doing wrong or can someone simply walk me through it... The usb is bad so I am trying to get it fixed and get this big order done... Thanks in advance.
  4. I picked up a MH871 and I want to hook it up to my Dell which I already have a roland plotter connected to via Serial Port, Now I would like to hook up my MH871 to this same computer, I was thinking of running the MH871 via USB but have read of issues of the USB not being reliable. So my question is do I try the USB or can I buy a Switch box to switch between the two plotters via Serial cable?

    Tip for serial port users

Too often, people search for answers on these boards and when they figure it out, they fail to follow up, leaving others in the same perdicament to wonder how they did it. So, I will not be so selfish and share what I have figured out... I have a MH1351 cutter with a broken USB port. Instead of fixing it, I decided to get a serial cable because no setup was neccesary. (supposedly) When I set up Signblazer to use Blazer: Com1, I got the error message "Can't initialize output device", Tried everything suggested on this site to figure it out to no avail, so I did some experimenting and stumbled on a solution. Here's what I did: I installed a random printer in XP (doesn't matter which one because you are not using it) and set it to link to Com port 1 during setup. Now, when I open Signblazer >Cut >Setup, there is now COM1 listed at the bottom of the list as well as Blazer:Com 1...I have had NO problems cutting while using this COM1 instead of BlazerCom1...I saved the setup in the Setup screen as well, just in case the Com1 option disappears again... Hopefully, this will help someone else whose pulling their hair out trying to fix the same problem...Good Luck!
