Its not an offset problem.

Like everybody else with this problem I've tried every offset between 0 and 0.9 with no real improvement.

It seems as if the blade just skews away from where its meant to go. (Is there an overcut setting in Sign Blazer?)

I'd like to open up my cutter and see if tightening anything up will help- but I need to know exactly which part I should open up and what I should try tightening.

The blade drags and cannot turn on its own so the miss cut is at the beginning of the cut as the blade is dragged to the first direction.

here is a great document showing offset and what it is.

The only other thing to do is make sure the blade rotates freely. I personally use a drop of 3 in 1 oil in the blade holder

The carriage is on the track.

Thanks for the link Dakotagrafx- I will check that now. But I'm pretty sure the miscut comes at the end when trying to close a cut, and the blade veers off in a different direction. Whereas if it just went straight it would close the cut fine.

baby oil. No difference though.

And its definately at the end of the cut where it seems to veer off and wreck the cut.

Looking at it you essentially get what other people have posted pictures of. As the cutter start from the bottom right of the square and goes left, then up, then right, then back down it veers off before it completes the cut.

I would examine the drive belts.  Loose belts can cause this kind of problem as well.

Set your offset to 0 and try a pen/paper plot.  See if it closes or not.  If not then it's likely a belt tension problem.  If it closes then it could be the blade holder, a dull blade, too much blade exposed, etc.

If you turn the machine off, move the carriage to one end (for a 24 inch) and hook your little finger behind the carriage belt and pull gently it should only come out about a half inch.  If it comes out more than that take the end cap off of the machine and loosen the locknut on the tension adjustment screw, tighten it about one turn at a time until it only moves about a half an inch.  Retighten the locknut to hold the setting and try the tests again.  You can run the machine with the cover off.

Also check the tension on the belt that drives the feed roller.  it should be fairly tight.  not the half inch like the long belt.  only about 1/16 of an inch on that one.

Once the belts are properly adjusted do the test again with a pen and paper.  If it closes plots try vinyl again.  (remember for vinyl you should reset the offset to .25mm).

Note that offset and overcut are the same thing.

Thanks for the help Howard. Works perfect with the pen at offset 0, its absoloutely gorgeous.

My belt seems fine, but can't actually open the left side (as you face the cutter, facing the CP), as one of the screws just will not open- think I've eroded the head now.

You think I should try a different blade Holder? Can I buy one form China/Germany on ebay?

You certainly can try another blade holder.  If you look over the forums there are folks here who have found other sources for them.

It would help to narrow things down.

I know this is an old thread but it's the one I used for help when my pcut wouldn't complete cuts. After reading through lots of advice, checking offset, etc., I finally stumbled on something about the blade sticking out too far. BINGO! Soon as I read that I remembered (while trying other fixes) noticing that my blade was sticking out much further than normal. I adjusted my blade and voila! NO PROBLEM! Everything works again. Cuts are closing and I can weed my vinyl. Thanks to whoever posted that little tip.

Sometimes it really is the simplest things.  :)

the problem is that SignBlazer is not cutting the material in the correct order. If you look at SignCut and do a cut preview you can see that the software uses a smart cutting system. It knows what direction the last cut was in and it starts the next cut in the same direction so the blade is in the correct position.

SignBazer does not do this. The problem I am having with SignCut though is that it is not cutting small circles perfect. They come out egg shaped. Anyone have any hep with that?

ps. I tried every combination of settings i could in SignBlazer and can not get it to cut a complete circle.

There are settings in both softwares that effect what has been posted.. also if a faulty blade holder . no software will cut correctly consistantly .

I'm having the same issues but with a refine MH721 using signblazer. I have also tried changing the offset and its still just as bad. The only difference I have found is when you choose which way it cuts in signblazer.

For example if I cut HELLO across the width of the vinyl (under 610mm) its fine, if I select it cut down the roll of the vinyl (could be over 610mm potentially) it will not close the cuts.

This is the only work around I have found so far, which is ok if everything is under 610mm, not much good when your doing 5M lengths for a van though.
