  • Her:

I am running in the Color Run in State September 29. I was thinking if the price is right would like to have shirts made. The quality of the t or printing doesn't have to be elaborate and if you would like adv. on them mayyybbeee you could cut me a deal. Design-I wanted sneakers that looked like girls with their arm around each other but couldn't find an image. I attached a pic. to work from. If ur interested lemme know. thx

  • Me:  Maybe I'm just tired........but you want sneakers that look like girls wrapping their arms around each other?

  • Her:  lmao yep ok imagine this the sneakers have eyes with big lashes and lipstick standing on toe with the laces as the arms one on the hip the other around the back. If it's not doable then the image I sent will work with our team name.

  • Me: And you want that done at bargain price?  It's doable. Anything is doable. But me trying to create something from your thoughts is gonna take a while. I think you should go with option 2.

  • Her:  that's perfectly fine is it possible to take the top of the shoes laces and incorporate it in the name or something. I'm fine with wut ever

Me: What's your budget per shirt before I get started?
  •
Her: o my I don't wanna sound cheap but maybe 10 bucks lol

Am I missing something?  $10 a piece seems like a good starting point however you never mentioned the color of the shirts or the colors in the design, front/back? Quantity?

I bet quantity is 2, 4 color vinyl, on back with names on front.  Maybe a heart and arrow on the sleeve.  Probably paying with a check as well....

$10 is doable in white w/ 1 color basic design. Beyond that price needs to reflect additional work involved, also need to factor how much design time is involved. I had a long standing policy of not charging design time but after the last few jobs being dragged out way too long with revisions I have rethought this position and decided first 15 minutes are on me and the rest is on them, bet they get the design done in under 15 minutes a lot more often.

There ya go Whit72.  Now turn that into whatever the heck that request of hers was.  I'll give you her contact info.  You can have multiple days and a 50 messages back and forth.  I guess I should have mentioned this girl comments on EVERYTHING that I post, only to say she doesn't want anything.  Maybe that and combined with my Monday was full of people thinking I like to do multiple design layouts only to keep hearing change this, change that ten times.   Oh, this keeps getting better.  She just started another conversation with me saying they no longer want to do the shirts.  Come to find out, during this "Color Run'' , they actually throw color (paint/dye of some sort) on the runners.   Why on earth would you pay to have a custom shirt and then have it ruined is beyond my logical reasoning.   You guys can have those $10 customers alllll dayyyy long.

Don't forget.  The image shown is only half of what she wanted.  Make sure you read the part where she wanted girls hugging and eyelashes and lipstick and whatever else I didn't comprehend.

Design time is extra so the more they want the more they pay. If being done single color and reasonably sized I still don't see an issue at $10 on white up to XL. And I know I have said this before to someone else but whenever anybody feels a jobs is beneath them for whatever reason send em my way I'm not as fussy as some especially since this is how I put food on the table.

Show me a website, any website that you can design a small custom T-shirt order (5 or less) for $10 each to your door.  I know this girl outside of this work order, so I got into a deeper conversation regarding price.  The conversation went to mentioning another shirt guy and then onto custom ink dot com and cafe press dot com.  I decided it's been a while and checked out those websites.  Their cheapest custom one sided white shirts $20 on one site and $25 on the other.  These are both great sites and have an easy design and order setup.  But show me a website for $10.

I was told by a VERY successful business man that if you find something you would do for free because you enjoy it that much and if you can make money with some aspect of it , you will succeed greatly . I understand the aggravation of futile conversations and job quotes , but I would rather spend time/money doing that than spending money advertising . Advertising would attrack those people/jobs anyway . I would much rather spend time catering to people than posting about it on a forum . It really depends on if 1 enjoys dealing with the public . I am sure everybody gets a belly full of the public at regular intervals , but it is part of this business . Sometimes doing cheap or freebies turns into a niche and that is what everybody needs imo .

I do enjoy what I do.  I guess I was just venting to the people who are in the same line of work.  I don't mind when it's here and there, but it's been two heavy days of stressing customers.  My rant is over.

I agree with Roger but sometimes these people take it way too far. I did a car design for this one gal and it turned into one big headache. Everytime I gave her something she wanted a little more. About 6 months after the car was done she came back and wanted something else. I plolitely told her I wasn't interested in working with her again.

I think most customers take it too far :) .. especially when you have had about as much trivial crap as you want to stand . I have a friend who gave me this advice when i was having a bad time . he said " Rodger , don't worry ... things will go along like this for just a little while .. THEN get just a little worse " :) . I hate that he told me , but can't resist sharing it

I take the good with the bad, I understand your frustration. Business is business, maybe she tells a friend what a great job you did and that friend wants 100 shirts. That's how I took at it,

I live by a simple rule, the customer is always right until the sheriff gets there to escort them out. I've had to do this before but normally when I see things going south I tell them I just don't have the time right now and refer them to my competition in town. I'll bet he throws darts at my picture. ;D
