MH871 Problem
slice&dice replied to Exquisite Graphix's topic in USCutter Refine Cutting Plotter Discussion
Since you did hear an audible "pop", it makes perfect sense that replacing the chip will most likely be getting you back into full operation. It's only a $5 part, and not terribly difficult to re-solder into place. -
maxMetal is also known in our industry as DiBond

please help. i need signblazer software
slice&dice replied to SurberSigns's topic in General discussion
Current mac laptops have SuperDrives which are slot-loading, and don't have slide-out trays. Some people suggest the "stop the spinning disc" method -- The #1 way to get it out is…….slide an adhesive mailing label into the slot until it contacts the top if the disc, you’ll hear it. use the eject command and give the disc a little assist tug. it will come out every single time. -
Welcome, and that sounds like a good niche market to get into. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_mSiKJI-w1fk/TNTAlM9nrDI/AAAAAAAAABA/0RFweBsvVyM/s1600/Cross.jpg

mac machines have Windows OS emulators available, although I have no idea how well or how poorly that would work with SB and trying to run a cutter via USB from inside an emulator program. IIRC, that small disc contains the FTDI drivers, which are available HERE -- http://support.uscutter.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/72/23/driver-ftdi---mh-creation-copam-and-sc---windows-xp--vista--7 -
I know that US Criminal Code prohibits the commercial use of the Red Cross symbol Section 706, Title 18, U.S. Criminal Code, part 18 reads as follows: "Whoever, whether a corporation, association or person, other than the American National Red Cross and its duly authorized employees and agents and the sanitary and hospital authorities of the armed forces of the United States, uses the emblem of the Greek red cross on a white ground, or any sign or insignia made or colored in imitation thereof...Shall be fined..." In spite of that, I'm producing a sign for an animal hospital, and there's a red cross on it. What are the chances of the business owner getting prosecuted for using that symbol?

From the looks of it, the guy is offering a regular harmless pdf which contains a detailed set of instructions. Within those instructions you will find a link to obtain a particularly bizarre piece of executable software, which some anti-virus protection programs are not thrilled with allowing you to install. In fact, this guy "Thomas" says right in the text itself that using the recommended OllyDbg incorrectly might screw up your computer!!!!!!!!!!! Caveat Emptor.

Jeff, howdy. The LiYu-SC is a quiet running machine, compared to the MH871 Refine that I was using until a few weeks ago. I literally couldn't carry on a conversation in the room while that MH was cutting. But you're right, the budget-priced equipment tends to be on the noisy side (with their stepper motors) and the high-end cutters with servo motors will be substantially more silent while operating.

This PDF has instructions to download an executable file which looks to be quite potentially hazardous to your computer!!!!!!! (even the instructions themselves warn of that outcome being possible). Also, be aware of Private Messages being sent through this USCUTTER forums system that will try to get you to download the PDF that links to this (potentially dangerous & destructive) program. I think that US CUTTER staff needs to take a closer look at the actual content of those PDF instructions and determine if it is in fact something that can cause people severe problems, and if so, perhaps remove all these links throughout the forum by "Thomas" telling the members here to follow those instructions of his.

We'll count it, sure, but you need to post a photo to make it official.

You know you're in the sign business when you use a ladder
slice&dice posted a topic in Show your work
A sure indication of taking it to the "next level" (pun intended) ----- using a ladder to install vinyl lettering. Although I've done higher-up work previously (on lighted sign faces above storefronts and onto awnings) today I was doing lettering onto a dump truck. {{{ I provided the client with a set of DOT #'s for no extra charge }}} Impressive to have a dump truck in my portfolio! -
You know you're in the sign business when you use a ladder
slice&dice replied to slice&dice's topic in Show your work
This sign just went up a few days ago, I love it when the installation is at a height reachable with a 16-foot ladder. I discovered that a regular drill is not the best thing for brick --- I need to get a hammerdrill for these types of jobs in the future. -
Running an actual 'Brick and mortar' shop has several distinct advantages --- for one thing, it provides a service to the community. Not everyone wants to deal with internet-based vendors. I have found that every one of my clients prefers to do business locally, and likes to have a living, breathing human in front of them. Another benefit is "having a place to call my own" --- there is a special satisfaction in opening the door to my shop each morning, and knowing that it's all mine.

You've come to the right place for interesting and informative discussions about how to best profit from creating & selling visual graphics.

SC 34" cuts fine at 1 g pressure. Okay?
slice&dice replied to Busdriverfella's topic in Vinyl Cutters
This is exactly what my SC 34" operates at -- 1g. -
Yep, I rented a 500 sq.ft. shop and hung up a sign that tells people I'm doing "Custom Lettering Instantly" and every day, someone comes in to order work. Last week, the county business-license inspector came by and asked if I had a "Traders Permit" and I told him that I don't provide anything for resale. He looked at my operation, and agreed. Go find a place that is visible to the World, and rent it. You will have work every day.

Picking a business name?
slice&dice replied to Coaster36's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
custom-sign-store In my opinion, obtaining a name for any business today requires a search to see if the DOMAIN is taken. http://GoDaddy.com is a good place to start. -
Congratulations, now you can start making some $$$ with your cutter, offering people customized decals to put onto their vehicles.

How do I change the letter height if one letter within a word?
slice&dice replied to Wendy T's topic in SignBlazer
Was browsing this topic, and realized that nobody gave the simple answer --- SELECT your text first. On the TOOLBAR, there's an icon called TEXT-GRAP (you have to scroll to the right to see it) Press that button, then click into the work area again (outside the text into any blank area) to DESELECT all your text, and NOW when you click back directly onto the letter you want to manipulate, it will be selected just by itself, and you can then play around with height, width, or proportional sizing. -
Anyone use an edge sealing marker/pen?
slice&dice replied to mwdesigncreate's topic in Instructional Contributions
Just a comment -- I tried to use "clear fingernail polish" as a substitute for the Seal-It pen, and the results were terrible. For one thing, the pen applies the sealer with a felt-tip, and lays down a thin coating, which dries virtually invisibly. The nail polish goes on with a brush, leaving globs and a thick coating, and dries to a glossy, visible finish. -
LiYu-SC gets up and running, my 1st impressions
slice&dice replied to slice&dice's topic in USCutter Equipment Feedback or Suggestions
The SC machine is rocking and rolling along like a champion. In the past week, I've done all sorts of work with it, and not even a hint of a hiccup. -- Memorial Cemetery (signs directing people to the office to get a free American flag for placing at grave markers) -- Veterinary Hospital (signs offering Pet Care, visible from 200 feet away, using 20" lettering) -- Sports Camp (signs promoting camp registration) -- Motorcycle Club ("watch for motorcycles" -- yellow warning street signs, 24" diamond-shaped) -- Junk Hauler (truck-door magnets) and more... Thank you, USCUTTER, for providing this machine. It's just the right machine for my shop. -
Everyone starts somewhere --- I began with making Job-Site h-Frame 24" x 36" signs, and have since earned thousands of $$$ doing those. I love 'em, they're easy to design and easy to produce.

Animal Hospital -- Red Cross symbol OK?
slice&dice replied to slice&dice's topic in General discussion
I decided to go with this red cross containing the paw-print, which seems to me sufficiently altered from a standard Greek cross, so as to not violate the aforementioned Section 706, Title 18, U.S. Criminal Code, part 18. Tip-of-the-hat to OWJones for that suggestion. -
Cool. Is that reflective 3-M (prismatic) vinyl? Where are the emergency lights hidden on this truck? Inside the front grill?
-
Congratulations, Dave. With just a few orders creating decals and doing applications, you'll have the money back for that unit. You might want to consider doing some SELF-PROMOTION coroplast 18"x24" bandit signs and place them where people will see that you're available for doing their vinyl-cutting jobs (when putting out those signs, do not violate local ordinances, of course )
