I'm really just trying to get by for another year until January when I have 60 college credits and can get a IT job. Serves me right for waiting 13 years to start college. I do think it will be cool if I can make enough out of my business to let my kids do something with it while they are in high school. I have two girls that are looking for jobs for the summer, hmmmmmm I wonder.

Really, I only sell certain things on eBay because I haven't had much luck in some areas. I have had no luck selling shirts on eBay but extra vinyl materials sell fast. Have never tried designs though. Are you saying an EPs file that's ready to cut?

What temperature is too hot for vinyl installation?
sleeveofwizzard replied to sleeveofwizzard's topic in Vinyl
Center hinge dry install. I poked a BUNCH of bubbles but you could see where I poked um and there was just too many to fix them. I haven't been back too see it but I have to install two more logos this evening. I hope it works out better for these.- 13 replies

Price check on cut vinyl
sleeveofwizzard posted a topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Man I have been needing a lot of help, I am still struggling with pricing, I got a call today for cut vinyl on office windows. 6 windows total, two with their logo 26" x 26" and 4 with text. Most are 6' tall and they want the font big. I estimate 4700 square inches of vinyl and 1.5 hours labor to install. What do you guys think? -
What temperature is too hot for vinyl installation?

OK guys I need help! I installed this today and got tons of bubbles. I used app fluid to apply the yellow on top of the black and I didn't see any bubbles. When I installed it onto the window dry I got a million air bubbles. The piece took me over an hour to edit. Then probably 1.5 hours to cut and weed and layer and install. Now its time to do it all over. I did five windows with text only using 3M vinyl I got as a free sample, not a single air bubble. Did this large logo on one window with 651 and it looks my toddler did it. What am I doing wrong?- 13 replies

What temperature is too hot for vinyl installation?
sleeveofwizzard replied to sleeveofwizzard's topic in Vinyl
Thanks guys, Yeah I have been able to work the bubbles out of the last two car window pieces I did in high heat. I was about to blow up yesterday trying to layer vinyl on vinyl inside my shop. I share the building with two other businesses and I am on the side with the high ceilings and sunlight. It seems like I have better luck when the temperature is below a certain point but it could just be a theory. I am going to try installing the bottom layer of vinyl onto the the window first then layer the second, and third onto that and see if it helps.- 13 replies

Jones, I found the Adobe Ideas app, it's GREAT! you are correct though the only way to save your work is to the Adobe cloud. It does not seem to work though. I hope I can find a workaround to save my work. -
PMs? ahhhh, I wanted to hear what you did.

I'm still new to pricing but some of the pricing guides I have been given are: length plus height divided by two = L + H / 2 = $ Another way is to figure your cost of vinyl per foot: price of roll divided by length then times by 4 to 6 for markup. So cost = $0.80 x 5 = $4 then $4 x length = price Bottom line is you want to charge what you feel the job is worth. Even if it is not that much vinyl but is very complicated and requires a lot of time then you will want to charge accordingly. There are more steps and things to factor in about multiple layers but these numbers will get you in the ballpark.

Trial and error is required. For me, I have to incorporate hands trials on with videos and tutorials in order to absorb the information.

Might have been a little large (height) I would use this picture and to test out some other sizes on your computer.

I quit my good job in February to move and work for a guy that I have been talking with for over a year. Once my old job ended the new guy backpedaled and said it was going to be a little while before he could hire me. I told him to go screw himself and decided to use all my vinyl equipment to try and make a living. It is scary and I haven't had much business yet but I am trying. I figure if I can't start to pay my bills from this within another two months I will just get another 9 to 5.

Real Estate Sign
sleeveofwizzard replied to sleeveofwizzard's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Alright I see a few votes for the PVC sign posts and just selling them to the customer for them to do with as they please. I am pretty sure the company I am trying to win over wants someone else to deal with the sign installations. I have no problem doing it just wasn't sure what I should charge for the whole service. Maybe flat rates for certain areas: local vicinity, city limits and in the county. I would have first dibs on replacing the signs when needed and suggesting additional ones too. I think their current inventory is wood signs and those are more of a pain to install.- 24 replies

Android tablet/cell phone vector app
sleeveofwizzard replied to speleopower's topic in General discussion
OWJones, What was the name of the Adobe app, I'm sure I can find it ;-) Speleopower, Opps I thought your note 2 was a tablet. I didn't end up buying a tablet but I was very torn between the new nexus 10" and the Samsung Note 10.1 simply because of the stylus that has some pretty awesome features. -
Ha Ha, oh man that sounds nice! Here in the central valley of California we get summer highs of 115. I heat didn't come until mid April but it is definitely here now.

Android tablet/cell phone vector app
sleeveofwizzard replied to speleopower's topic in General discussion
I downloaded a few but haven't messed with them much. Might be more useful with your tablet but on my phone it was a pain the one time I tried to create an example picture for a friend. All depends on what you want to create with it. For me I don't see them being worth the trouble for most anything. -
I don't know if you guys have as much trouble installing as I do. But anything I try to install during the day here in California is a huge pain. For example it's 95 degrees out rite now. I am planning on doing my installs early morning when the sun comes out or maybe in the evening but mid summer it stays hot until the moon has been up a while. what do you guys do for window and car installs outside?

Late nighter here! My wife is always harping on me about being up all hours of the night. My ADD allows me to operate on very little sleep, unfortunately my Add does not allow me to get much done.

Yes sir! Using a serial port connection and my desktop computer she cuts like a hot knife through butter. I cut down a 54" sample roll of white 3M I have had for two years and looking forward to testing it's 35" capabilities.- 24 replies

Real Estate Sign

I'll need a better cutter to get the text small enough at the bottom of the sign to say "not haunted at the time of appraisal, no warranty implied or upheld" Also I think that sign post looks terrible. I would make one that looks better than that.- 24 replies

The trimming is what I was the most curious about. what have you guys used to trim the vinyl that is slightly too large. I would be worried about scratching the glass with a razor.
