Ha ha I love getting a peek into other peoples shops and work areas. It helps me to see how other people accomplish the same tasks I am working on.

There will be times for all of us that we say no to a customer. People are crazy sometimes and want weird or impractical things. One of my recent customers wanted a word placed in what I thought was a weird location on his car. I taped it in place and we looked at it in both locations and he made the decision. I am ok with that even though I thought it looked off. Now if what the customer wants is going to in some way make your company or your quality of work look bad then I am all for taking a stand. An example could be if the customer wants the vinyl installed on the inside of tinted glass store window and it's going to look terrible. Also that most people in your community are going to know that you did this work. I definitely don't want people to assume that it was my planning or skills that creating a bad looking sign. If I created something that looked bad I would redo or fix it immediately so that the customer and public wouldn't see it.

Yes I agree that a different color line would have looked great but I am assuming they wanted or paid for just blue and black. Overall I think it looks great and my comments about possible changes are for myself and others to keep in mind when creating layouts or making recommendations to customers.

Yes I quoted myself: Roger I mixed you up with M500, maybe if you posted in a large blue font I wouldn't mix you up with anyone else (sarcasm). I was talking about the horrendous comment.

Now I'm hungry darnet Very nice work, I like the two pigs a lot. I also like the sample shirt with the color options on it. It is an awesome way to showcase different colors but also what they look like on black and white shirts. Yeah an underline in the same color would have been super easy to add and break up the big long list.

svg file to eps file help

For me the most common reason items don't show up in Signblazer is that not all of the graphic is a path or vector. if there is text make sure to select it and convert it to a path before saving the file. This may need to be done with shapes as well. Sometimes you have to un-group things before the program will convert them to a path. There is an indicator at the bottom of the screen that tells you what each object is (path or image)

Choppy? are you sure there is something wrong with it or is it just the low quality image Signblazer produces on the screen? try zooming in and out to see if the choppy look changes. Do your settings match what I posted? Are you selecting "Import" and "use full postscript interpreter"? If you post the eps and svg we can look at them but I understand if its not something you can share.

Most of the time I am more critical about my work then other people but it can be hard to hear sometimes. I don't mention all the stuff I am thinking about work that is posted, usually the main issue or whatever might be helpful. I am the type of person that can get creatively frustrated so I try to also mention positive aspects while critiquing others. I don't think Rodger feels the same way but that's ok, I'm glad he is being honest.

svg file to eps file help

There is a window that pops up once you save a file in EPS. Here is a screen shot of the settings I use for files being cut in SignBlazer.
  14. Hey guys, I am putting together a bid and wanted to make sure I am in the right ball park. Not sure what other people do this type of thing for. It is three colors, swirled stripes that run down each side of the trailer. Just under 15 feet per side x3 Black, orange and grey. I can fit each color (both sides) on 24" vinyl so I will be 45 feet of 24" material. Cost for my material is about $190, customer wants to install.

    Pricing Question

A customer wanted me to match the price of his usual decal guy on a commercial vehicle lettering job. $120 lower than my price that I thought was a little low already. I told him I would match the price but that means I am going to match the quality of work and materials as well. Then explained the difference between cast and cal. vinyl and how the lettering wasn't welded or straight. Showed him about 15 screw ups on the example car. Also the guy he hired to do it had charged him a fee for the artwork that is readily available on the internet and was a poor quality image that he didn't even give to the customer. Once I explained that I was going to have to do the same graphic work the last guy did and use more expensive materials, AND do a better job at all of it, he changed his tone.

Yeah what they said Look at the top left corner of my screen shot, if a color has a red X then it is not selected to be cut.

    Tailgate sign

I like the tail gait a lot but I like RickS said, the name is hard to read. I would use a font that is a little more readable or straighten it out a bit and make it bigger.
  21. Yeah this is a situation but I agree with Smokem, if you have an order or two that needs to get done first than pick up the banners or vise verse, I would get on the road and get it all done. Lesson learned about the supplies and you can find partners that are interested in quality and reputation as you are.
  22. Sorry to hear this paperman, I have a 4 x 8 banner I can overnight you for cost but not sure when it would get there. This whole citation is crazy to me but if you look back on it now their behavior has been consistent. It is really unfortunate when a company fails at its core functions and duties. It's not like this is some small side function ofthe company, this is what they are supposed to be the best at.

    Almost done! (And random)

I used to do sales and construction for a flamboyantly gay florist / interior designer. There was never a dull moment around him and he was very successful. I witnessed him on numerous occasions "fire" a customer because they questioned his opinion or design. When I had just started working for him he had me deliver a full size van full of flowers, decorations, centerpieces and large pots for a high class party. The lady mentioned to me when I was setting everything up that some of the flowers were not what she expected. I stepped outside and called the boss so he could fix the problem and keep the customer happy. The boss said to load everything up and bring it back. I didn't understand at the moment and told the customer that he said to take everything back, we both thought he was going to fix it for her. To my surprise back at the shop the boss was angry and yelling that she dare speak that way about his work and that she wasn't getting anything from him! I couldn't believe it that he fired a customer! I did realize that his snooty attitude kept him in business with the super rich elite members of the community and aloud him to charge ABSURD amounts of money for his products. The moral of the story is that in some situations this type of attitude can work but more times than not, you will lose out on business. P.S. my old boss is dead because he was shot point blank in the face by his neighbor about a year ago.

your asked to do lettering ... never a font

I have had it happen to me after installing the vinyl they ask "can you do this part in a different color?" or something similar. I don't mind working a little more to make them happy but I can't eat costs or give things away. Don't forget that whatever you would have charged for the extras they want plus a little something for what you have already done is a fair price. I don't charge full price for both but it's not my fault that they didn't listen to me in the beginning and I always get a signature on the agreement and proof picture so there is no misunderstanding about what I am going to do.
