    LaserPoint USB port

The Limit switches on the sides act as reset switches, turn off your machine & hold down the right push-button hold it for several seconds, then whhile still holding down the switch turn the plotter on, then immediately let go. The plotter should reset to "factory" settings. It's not documented but it works for me.

    LaserPoint USB port

Update I reset my LP24 and connected the USB port - everything works fine, I had to uninstall then reinstall the USB driver, but other than that the machine worked.

I feel your pain concerning the techs, I wish I could tell you how many times I've applied to a job, with all my years of experience, yet HR still hires someone who knows almost nothing. Nowadays it's even harder with Robo-screeners dumping your resume before you even see a person! It just amazes me to see how....OK, I'm calm - I'm Happy! Let it go....

    LaserPoint USB port

The link from the previous post was a bare board without the prom chip, since you got yours from the US Cutter Tech, I'm sure he's smart enough to order the complete board. BTW - a PROM is literally a programmable memory chip, it's programmed with the control info needed for your particular machine, so no you can't just buy a chip unless programmed correctly. USB ports are very reliable and what usually causes a problem is a physical short like when you run over the cables or jam the port so badly the lan'ds short. Wth a new board and new plub & connector you shouldn't have a problem. Don't worry be happy!

    LaserPoint USB port

When I ran my LP24 I disconnected the USB connector until I got a replacement, leaving it connected might have caused a short accross the 5V line. That may be what happened to you. those pictures are very typical of a run-away short. You may (probably) have lost that UV-prom and U12 - not sure what that is, probably used as a digital switch

The link above is just for the board you'll have to use your old UV-PROM (Big chip in center of 2nd picture).

    LaserPoint USB port

It's not water it's oxidation a mixture of electricity and humidity and possibly some power surges. C40 is close to being burnt if it's not gone already, but those are a different issue from the USB port (the cable to the right and above the power (red, black, yellow, black)) the yellow should be the 5V but I don't have a schematic to be sure

    LaserPoint USB port

I've been using the standard serial pot, when I reconnected the USB I didn't get a notice sound from windows (indicating a usb port is active) I'm very sure I connected the port correctly, but I may have blown the USB 5V line when I originally damaged the plug.. If it's bad then it should cause other problem, but still I haven't had any problem with the standard serial port. I don't know if the Lp24 requires a hard reset. I would ask a tech but I'm still waiting for a reply from my original trouble ticket!

    LaserPoint USB port

Hi I re-soldered my USB port, Make sure you don't have any solder spill, it can create a short that can pop the USB on your PC. I have about 30+ years as a technician so it wan't really a big deal for me. About finding the Comm port here is a small routine I ran across to show all com-ports in device manager: Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt. At a command prompt, type the following command , and then press ENTER: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 'Type the following command a command prompt, and then press ENTER: start devmgmt.msc click view --> show hidden devices Troubleshoot the devices and drivers in Device Manager. list the com ports and you'll see all active & hidden (inactive) ports

Opinions on Sure Cuts A Lot

Personally I like SB better, but it's older software that is close to running it's course, it's old. The import should still work be careful you aren't running hotshot instead. The sb filename is SBNT.exe. as to surecuts It runs best when importing SVG (Scaleable Vector Graphics). I usually run Inkscape trace the bitmap then save to SVG. If your program can convert directly to vectors then try saving in SVG, or AI, or PDF. Good Luck!
  15. Boy this is really frustrating! the contour cut feature goes through all the motions, but after setting the third point the software just hangs the cutter and nothing works until you do a hard reset. I love my LP24 and thanks to it, I'll be buying a more powerful printer/cutter, but I'm getting to the point that I don't know if I can trust USCUTTER for my next purchase.
  16. Not at all, very frustrating!

    Graphtec 6000-40 15 inch

Your last problem sounds like a Baud rate/handshaking problem make sure you set comports the same in device manager, the machine, and the program. I run everything with 8-1-n hardware handshaking, but yours make work with xon/xoff

    Overwhelmed

Hope you have great luck! If you are a "Giving" Person try to channel that towards building your brand & Image. Word of mouth is a priceless investment! Free stuff is good as long as you figure out how to make more money than your giving out. Treat the free stuff as advertising revenue so you can claim it as an expense. hope that helps.

    broken usb port.

OK all fixed! I had a scare yesterday, I plugged my serial port & ran SCAL & caused the LCD screen to go blank, but my tough LP24, fixed itself , so I figured I better get going & fix the USB port.
  21. I agree with Coaster36, only you can price that out, but remember there are hidden costs: with today's high gas prices a drive to buy that $1.00 mirror may cost you $2.00 in gas and $5.00 in travel, If you do a lots of prints price your work averaged out to 12 pieces, 100 pieces etc. OK, I've never been one to not take a risk when there's a good chance I can get my head chopped off - If you framed it out as a one color print $20-$30 depending on the frame without the frame maybe $12-ish?? BTW:How did you get color into the glass??
  22. I would factor the average amount of time to do a job as an expense , then add in material & location expenses and then a profit. Never go below your total expenses no matter how much that is. If it's very high then sell the work on quality, value & uniqueness. And by the way don't sell yourself short, it's not everyone that can do what you do.

    broken usb port.

Yes when I have good equipment, a decent solder iron, a desoldering tool & heat sink material. I've been working with electronics since I was 9, yes really, back then no one got in trouble for letting a nine year old inside the back of a tv, or at least no one bothered to call the police or Child protective services.

Yes exactly. And BTW yes I tried getting the board from "THEM" but "THEY" were out of stock.
