haumana 1,220 Posted August 16, 2008 Here's a minor rant thread. You can list some of the more trivial things that irritate you in life - knowing that if a little common sense was exercised life would be so much better. You're not allowed to put down stuff like, "end world hunger." I'll start ... Life would be so much better if ... ... the person standing in front of you at the bank already has their deposit slipped all filled out. ... old folks in grocery stores would move their carts to the side when they walk away to look at something. (I think you guys get the idea )

firemalt 10 Posted August 16, 2008 ( these statements are just general thoughts, none effecting me personally, but just thought the world in general would benefit from the changes) ... if people weren't allowing to talk on their cell phone while driving. ... if the rich stopped get richer, and the poor getting poorer. ... if something could be done about the oil/price prices. ... if Starbucks went out of business (lol, my fiancee would kill me if she saw that I wrote that) ... if there weren't thieves in this world. ... if illnesses like HIV, AIDS, TB, Hep a,b,c,d,e,f,g were cureable. ... if people didn't litter. ... if EVERYTHING didn't revolve around politics. slopchops 1 Posted August 17, 2008 If our political system wasn't so corrupt. Withe the one of the two front runners going to be elected, I shudder.
Benr98 40 Posted August 17, 2008 .....mortgage companies actually helped people instead of letting it go into foreclosure. ....politicians would be every day people not the crooks that are in there now. (who would pay 10million campaigning for a 2 million dollar job?) .....so since Five started it...just $2.00 per member sent to me! ....I absolutely LOVED Johns post..... if people could love as easily or as quickly as they can hate. Beautifully said.
BannerJohn 1,324 Posted August 17, 2008 If our political system wasn't so corrupt. Withe the one of the two front runners going to be elected, I shudder. Our political system is corrupt because Most people who vote haven't got sense enough to weigh the issues and qualifications to make an educated decision. IN other words...it is the voter who has made it so. Case in point: Claiborne County Tennessee...recently the voters elected a Sheriff who was running with 2 statuatory rape charges made against him. Knox County Tn...Voters elected a sheriff for a 4th term who had been (during office) convicted of a felony, and was widely know as an arrogant 'my way or the highway' person. And that's just around here. When people learn to vote based on common sense and intelligence, corruption will go away. But it ain't gonna happen folks. Benr98 40 Posted August 17, 2008 John, don't you think some of this has to do with media?? I sure do. Especially regarding larger races...such as presidential.
BannerJohn 1,324 Posted August 17, 2008 John, don't you think some of this has to do with media?? I sure do. Especially regarding larger races...such as presidential. yes, because a well-run race, decided on the facts, is: 1.Yet to happen 2.Not news. People want to hear the mudslinging and dirty stories. WE are a nation of sensationalists. Real news doesn't sell. This is why Britny Spears' lack of underwear makes the front page and an earthquake on Bolivia is hidden away in the back somewhere. How many of you were watching the Olympics while Russia was invading Georgia and didn't know about it til the next day? And how many of you thought Georgia was just south of Tennessee? The people elect the politicians. After all, they elected George W the second time (not the first)
Benr98 40 Posted August 17, 2008 I know exactly what you are saying John and agree. So with that said: A president's pension currently is $191,300 per year. Assuming the next president lives to age 80. Sen McCain would receive ZERO pension as he would reach 80 at the end of two terms as president. Sen Obama would be retired for 26 years after two terms and would receive $4,973,800 in pension. Therefore it would certainly make economic sense to elect McCain in November. How's that for non partisan thinking???
BannerJohn 1,324 Posted August 17, 2008 take it a step further...if McCain is elected, the occupation of Iraq ain't gonna be over anytime soon. That's about 100 BILLION a year. 100 Billion a year would provide a lot of healthcare to the 50 million Americans who don't have it. Myself included. I'll happily trade 5 million for 100 billion anytime. and anyway, another 8 years of the economic diarrhea we've had for the past 8...there ain't gonna be anything left to pay anyone's pension.
