Cutting Issues

Recommended Posts

Greetings...having major issue with my cutter.  MH 721-MK2.  Running Windows 10 Pro.  Using Viny Master software that came with the cutter.  Machine stand is on concrete.

The cutter will sometimes stop when partially done.

Or...The cutting is "all over the place"...meaning portions of the image are not being cut where they are supposed to do, many times cuts overlap other parts of the cut image.  As an example...If I was cutting a simple image of a house, the roof line might be cut through the middle of the house....or a window would be cut over the roof...hope that makes sense.

I have changed the connecting cable.

I wipe the machine down with static wipes.

I bought the static magnet/string accessory.

I replaced the motherboard.

Looking for some help.  Thanks in advance.

Make sure that you have enough vinyl unrolled and slack to do the order. Never be pulling from the roll while cutting.  It is best to use a Tripplite Keyspan Adapter and null modem cable with the value cutters.  Tripplite is the brand name. Others will not work with a vinyl cutter.  Those cutters have a cheap Chinese chipset.  It has been mentioned hundreds of times on this forum.

Definitely make sure there's enough slack so the entire job does not pull directly from the roll (under tension).  A Tripplite keyspan is a good starting point to start ruling things out.  I would alsoo add that you can try swapping out the USB cable and test that out too.  USB cables don't go bad very often, but when they do, it's not always a work/don't work symptom, it can be inconsistent perfomance/data issues as well.

How close (or far) is your computer to cutter?  Is this an issue that just started to happen?  Any chance there was a Windows update just before you started to have these issues?

Really sounds like static to me. Try running the same job that is messing up using pen and paper. If it comes out correct you have a static issue. If the pen/paper messes up, you have other problems.

My guess here would be if you are using USB cable.  I have experienced similar situation and ended up wasting a fair bit of vinyl before learning my lesson to use a serial cable adapter.

Also, try not to use a heavy roll of vinyl.  I mean putting a whole 50 m roll will cause the machine to lose positions, both from static point of view and from the fact that a full roll is too heavy to drag.
