With vehicles I would recommend using cast vinyl such as Oracal 751. It will hold up better. Be sure to clean your tailgate very thoroughly including as a last step an alcohol wipe down. It should be squeaky clean literally. When you search for youtube help look for hinge methods. I would go with a top or side hinge depending on curvature of your gate. With simple lettering like that I would not bother with trying to do it wet. Best par is if you mess it up it's your own rig so you can just try again.
