pshawny 410 Posted December 5, 2014 Anyone have experience with the cheap, made in China wrapping vinyl? Is it comparable to any of the low end vinyl here in the USA? I'm looking to offer small rolls and sheets of printed vinyl to my local crafters and cricuteers. It doesn't have to be professional level vinyl, just something decent. Does it work well for cut vinyl designs on flat surfaces also?
bikemike 711 Posted December 6, 2014 I had some china made vinyl. The orange turned grey in 2 weeks. And don't try to get it off. The stuff just isn't worth it unless you really don't like the person you give it to.
pshawny 410 Posted December 6, 2014 Thanks for the info bikemike! I saw some pictures of a BMW wrapped with red Chinese vinyl that turned to a peach color within a month or two. They must use some really cheap dyes to color the vinyl during manufacturing. I'm looking at printed vinyl. I'd imagine even with cheap inks that the printed stuff must last 1-2 years. The removability is another factor. I'll buy a sample roll from the manufacturer and see what it's like. I'll probably be better off just buying a solvent printer and printing it myself on a quality American made vinyl.
Sue2 918 Posted December 6, 2014 Basically, if you are selling it to customers... your good name is at stake here. With the internet now, the word gets out fast if you are providing poor quality stuff and sales will suffer in the end. Better to charge a bit more and provide a product you can be proud of. Try to pre-test your stuff so you can confidently state "This will last 1-2 years". AND/or have a reasonable replacement policy. Just my 2 cents....... pshawny 410 Posted December 6, 2014 Wise beyond your years Sue2. Selling to consumers can be bad enough when you're selling a top quality product.

Dakotagrafx 7,296 Posted December 6, 2014 No lie, 2 weeks layered vinyl I take it - not printed?
bikemike 711 Posted December 6, 2014 Yes, layered. Worst stuff ever.
Dakotagrafx 7,296 Posted December 6, 2014 wow that is shorter life span than florescent or aqueous printed.
Sue2 918 Posted December 6, 2014 wow that is shorter life span than florescent or aqueous printed. I have an HP5500 Aqueous wide format printer with UV inks... and have found that the inks hold up very well if I over-laminate the sign with a UV Laminate (over 2 years in full sun). Costs more but, the laminate also protects the sign from scratches etc. Sue2
Dakotagrafx 7,296 Posted December 7, 2014 sue = when you look for a new uv printer look at the uv cured inks for outdoors - they will last much longer than using uv resistant dye ink - worlds difference uv resistant like the hp is made to make photos last longer than the normal 4 years for dye ink - too many people get the two kinds of uv ink confused
bikemike 711 Posted December 7, 2014 Not going to say what I think that translates to.

TauntDevil 19 Posted July 3, 2015 I have only had special vinyl from china ebay sellers but mainly because there is no one else who sells the stuff unfortunately. Usually lasts about one month depending what it is. Sadly
