dee10w 29 Posted August 16, 2014 Hi'all, just wondering if anyone out there has or has had any experience of this printer, it says on the tin in can print on vinyl, Laminating isnt a problem but just wanted to know what kind of quality this machine outputs, also what would be the best RIP to use or is the standard software sufficient?? OWJones 1,981 Posted August 16, 2014 The HP Z2100 is an aqueous ink printer. It can print on HP vinyl made for aqueous inks, but it is not intended for long term outdoor use. It will be great for indoor signs and banners that aren't exposed to direct sunlight, but not for outdoor decals or banners. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Sue2 920 Posted August 17, 2014 I have an HP5500 and it too is aqueous...but uses UV inks. Don't know if those are available for the Z2100. I have printed coro & magnetic signs then over-laminated with UV laminate and they hold up very well outside with little fading. The attached photo shows a test I did several years ago... the sign was printed on vinyl, mounted on coro then laminated on the top half with the UV laminate and the bottom none. It was outside for 3 years facing full sun. Amazing. It was a good test. I used an off-brand adhesive vinyl from Fellers. Sue2 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Wildgoose 4,200 Posted August 17, 2014 I get a lot of work because there is at least one shop somewhere in my area that sells a lot without laminate. I don't know their presentation technique but I'm betting they don't show an actual example like that for the customers to make an informed decision. I get the client a couple years later when their graphic looks like crap and sell them on solid vinyl.
