cutting picts

i have been trying to cut picts (ie detroit tiger logo checkered flags ford emblem chevy emblem) and i am getting the pict from clip art

when i copy the images and paste into inkscape it shows the image then i export to sign cut

all that shows up in sign cut is a black box where image should be

NOW WHAT AM I DOING WRONG

The images you're using are probably on .jpg or .bmp / .png files- They MUST be vector format images before they will export and cut.

I just joined this forum, great stuff here. Do all sign software come with their own vectorization tools? I use illustrator so I am familiar with its vectorization tool "Live Trace" - what happens when the original bitmap doesn't lend itself to automated tracing and it requires manual redrawing? Is there an area in this website where I can offer my services? Jude
