I always have a roll here. I use it to attach shipping labels. Tape that wide is very expensive.

I have used it to over-laminate smaller magnetic signs, just for the fun of it.

3M actually make a product called Stone Gard just for this purpose.,

Stone Gard might be the name of a competitive product, not sure.

It is also used to put along the side of vehicles under the doors on the sill.

This stops those nasty stone chips./

It is cut with a normal vinyl cutter.

Normal clear vinyl does not have the resistance to stone strikes.

With Clear vinyl it is often used as a protective cover over other vinyl work.

Also it is used in printing with solvent printers.

The color background usually white makes up the remainder of the image.

Like John, lots use it for low cost tape to cover labels etc.

Kids love it for covering school books.

You're talking about paint protection film (PPF).  It's an 8 mil thick urethane (not vinyl) product.  Two mil cast vinyl and slightly thicker calendered vinyl provide basically no protection against rocks.

Several companies make it, 3M calls theirs Scotchgard Paint Protection Film.

Yes you are correct about the name.

Thanks for posting that.

Great stuff if you are allowed to buy it.

Here it the sale appears to be restricted to a few.
