Unwanted Weeding Cuts

Recommended Posts

Hi, All...I am a newbie to this forum as I just purchased an unused/used Laserpoint cutter and have had my first introduction to SignBlazer. I am a little frustrated by a series of weeding cuts (I think that's what they are) that are running through my decals and making weeding difficult as pieces not intended to be weeded are accidentally removed. These are not weeding cuts called up in the Cutter menu. They just happen. Is there any way to turn this "feature" off or am I doing something that is causing these cuts to happen.

Thanks to any and all in advance for help.

Dennis

Can you provide a photo of the cuts that its doing so we can get a little better idea which ones your talking about?

I am unsure just how I would photograph these cuts as they are really fine. I can watch them develop when I click on the command "Cut Tile."  The graphic will be shown and then these seemingly random lines begin to trace across the drawing with no apparent pattern. They appear as a sort of dotted line on the monitor,  but are actually a solid cut running across various parts of the graphic.

Hmmm. kinda sounds like your blade holder is either not fully lifting or the blade is out too far.

The lines you see on the screen are the Jog lines where the cutter moves from one point to another. It should be lifting the blade well above the vinyl during this step.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. Would the blade be cutting through the backing paper if the blade was extended too far and was cutting the jog lines? It is not curring deeper than the vinyl. All of my experience is with a Roland Stika so this is all new turf.

It could be cutting all the way through but then it could be lifting just enough to scratch the top layer. When its cutting do you see the blade drop and raise? or does it just stay down the whole time?

The blade holder certainly is moving up and down...how much of the blade should be exposed in the holder. The instructions say 1/64th of an inch...but is that barely visible, about the width of a piece of paper, a credit card, or? Thanks again for your help. This is really frustrating.

Do you have the locking ring down tight on the blade holder? just barely be able to see it. and feel it.  most vinyl is  2mm 3mm  which is not much at all,  and you only want to be cutting the vinyl and not thru it, into the paper backing.  Set you blade and lock it down good, then you should be using your force  adjustment on the machine to cut deeper,   try test cuts, until you get the right depth,  different thicknesses of vinyl will require different force adjustments on the machine.

The general recommended depth is about 1/2 the thickness of a credit card. You will barely be able to see the tip poking out.

Just a suggestion when ever you change vinyl do a test cut first to check your pressure, speed ect. That way you will not waste vinyl.

There is one thing to keep in mind on a pcut/laserpoint (same carriage).

The screw that you tighten to hold the blade holder in the carriage arm, if it is overtightened will stick out the back of the arm and rub against the carriage cover - this will make it lift slowly and cause extra cuts.

Check that and let us know.

If I click on power weed option on my Graphtec using SB, I get a series of small squares sometimes where I have blanks or used the space key... and occasionally these will get cut into letters or designs too.. I have given up power weeding and just weed each copy now.. Can't take the chance to ruin the sign.
