urgent help needed: cp-2500 freezing...

Recommended Posts

i tried to call but as usual, no one answers. waiting on a call back.

i'm cutting something complex. not large (about 18" high, 12" wide), but a pretty complex design. about 1/3-way through, the cutter pauses. it says it's cutting but it's just sitting there with the fan on. i originally assumed that it was a memory issue but i'm not sure why that would be. lots of points in the eps file, but again, it's not big, size-wise.

it's still frozen, says "cutting," and the fan is going. i'd like to get an answer instead of just turning it off and junking the vinyl (again). and i don't want to ruin the cutter.

the same thing happens when i run multiples of the same job at once (x amount of copies) instead of one at a time.

cp-2500

signcut x2

usb 2

windows xp

1 gig ram

seems like it'd be a buffer issue or something, but i of course end up asking myself if it's ever going to catch up and finish, etc. it's cut about 8 inches and it hasn't restarted. the pause button won't work either (screen just stays at 'cutting').

been about 20 minutes or so.

Load SignBlazer instead, and import the same file, set it to the same size, and see if it cuts better.

If you have the option I would try a different connection type as well.

all right, i talked to ken the other day a couple times on the phone...this is all post-our conversation...

the cutter usually cuts fine. occasionally it'll do a stall or just scroll the vinyl out nonstop and i have to shut it off.

tonight i went to cut a simple job, one that i've cut dozens of times already. it's small, we're talking 12" wide by maybe 8" long.

about 30 seconds after starting, it fails. i try another job, same thing happens. i load some other vinyl, and this time it just scrolls the vinyl nonstop and i have to shut off the cutter.

so i'm thinking about how ken was telling me about power issues on usb, especially with a usb2 converter card. so i'm like fine...

i get my other laptop, which has windows vista, built-in usb2, yada yada. i installed the cutter and installed signcut and signblazer. eh voila...same thing happens. so i swap out the usb cable for the one that came with the cutter. same thing happens.

so basically i've duplicated the problem on two different machines with two different cables and two different operating systems and two different software programs.

to me that means it's either the cutter, which i doubt, or a communication issue with usb.

being that they're both laptops, i do not have proper serial ports, nor do i have parallel ports.

so i'm sitting here with 100+ jobs to do this weekend and basically no cutter. faaaaaaaaaaaantastic.

anyone? anyone?

Had a simular problem with Flexi and changed the driver to the DGI OM-60 instead of the Copam and all is working great now.  it would freeze part way thru then hang - cutter said cutting but nothing would happen and no button response.  With the new setting all is good!

I have found the file went bad when that happened to me . It seems alot of problems with laptops especially with usb . Is it the power variation  ( running off battery vs plugged into a wall plug ) ? Mayby try a desktop computer .

dakotagrafx: what is dgi om-60? if that's a driver, where can i find it? searched the board and didn't see anything.

rodger: nah, the laptops are both plugged into the wall; we never have them on battery power. and i unfortunately can't even try a desktop, as all the computers we have are laptops.

i also don't know what you mean by "the file went bad." it's not like i changed anything in the eps file or anything like that. and we're talking multiple files, different jobs, etc. i've had the setup since december and this has never happened until this past week.

I guess I had files go corrupt , I remade the file & it cut fine again . It was the same sitution , cut great for months then wouldn't . I have some files i use all the time for my company logo  that is starting to not cut a couple straight lines .Those will be a pain to duplicate if they go corrupt .

I have read & also had settings change without doing anything . Seems 99.9% of the time it is a setting or cable bad .

That is a driver Dakota is talking about  .

yeah i don't know what driver that is. i'm using the ftdi drivers or whatever was recommended. i looked for the one dakota mentioned but couldn't find it.

i was just brainstorming with my better half and she said that maybe it IS the cut file. ken has wondered about that before, as have some of you here. but, i just realized that it only happens on two eps files that i have once she asked me about it. the reason i didn't notice is because one of them has been cut so many times with no problems. i'd hate to redo it considering that it's some in-depth text that i did in illustrator, but if i have to, so be it.

sometimes the files cut, sometimes they screw up. etc etc. i cut a ton of files yesterday that all worked perfectly. same this morning. but when i go to cut a couple of these other files, it's like an agitated pre-teen: you never know what's going to happen, but it's always annoying haha.

i just want to solve the problem. that's all i care about. and nothing is 100% consistent with the problem so that's why i don't know what the problem is.

I understand ! Patience is a difficult thing . I determined my file was bad by cutting it & it didn't , then cutting others which cut correctly & then cutting the suspect file again . I guess files that are intense to make should be backed up .

Now about that member name ;D  :)

Now about that member name ;D  :)

huh?

yeah i mean we do all of our artwork in illustrator and save as eps files, and then load the eps files into signcut (or signblazer). any suggestions to avoid the previously mentioned problems would be greatly appreciated.

You might have to excuse my sense of humor  ;D , but i thought it was a woman's member name ... I think stayhandsome would be masculine . I gave Dazzle a similiar question when HER member name was Buddy .. right BDC  ( Buddy , Dazzle Carmen ) ?

The driver I suggested is in the list of available plotter that comes with flexi - just set up a new device and select that one

I am having same problem, Copam with Signblazer hanging up and cutting a diagonal line. Can you use the dgi om-60 driver with Signblazer. If so, where can i get it? Thanks for the help.

Thanks, maybe it is Signblazer. I read somewhere that the diagonal was built into the program in trial mode. Wonder why they are selling as a working program? You can cut small 1/2" x 1" graphics in array now?
