I can't believe that someone with deep pockets hasn't opened a competing site to Ebay.  Someone like google could get the job done right and they have their own payment system.  Ebay's fees have just keep going up drastically for the last 8 years!

I had an ebay store but found that using fixt price items was far more economical

I would like to check out some of the ebay stores that guys on here are doing over 1k a month with.  ;D

I am surprised Google hasn't set up an auction site yet. They have the Google checkout system already.

Then check mine out Rob.  http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Desert-Dog-Decals

I did $1500 my first month.  Took the advice from many on here.

The secrets (as I see 'em as a newbee) are twofold:

1. Find a niche market- you'll see what I'm tapping into when you go there and

2. Always keep a few fixed price auctions going to keep you high in the search criteria.  This gets expensive ( had about $150 in ebay fees last month and so far about $100 this month) but in the scheme of things, it's not terrible for the exposure you get.

I also have a non-ebay store http://www.desertdogdecals.com which does much less money but I can sell decals cheaper since I only pay a very minimal fee AND when you buy from my Ebay site, I send you install instructions that tell you about my other store along with a coupon code to save even more from that.  I figure after a year or so of E-bay selling, I will have a fair amount of business on my main store and can wean myself off the big E.  Best of Luck!

Hey Jeff (Hey, same name!  :))..

Do you feel the need of a eBay store over just listings?

I started selling my vinyl products this month on ebay. Over the month of march I've only done about $150.00. I don't know if I see the need for me to have a ebay store or not ;D

Jeff - if you are planning on making any coin at all, you will need a store of some type to display all your products as continual listing auctions would be cost prohibitive.  I think most sellers would agree (for a newbee anyhow) a two tiered approach is preferred. Ebay, for me anyway is a necessary evil as it has the traffic. Without it you are a needle in an internet haystack. My non-ebay store gives me flexibility to add non-selling topics like installation instructions or video links.  I would recommend creating a couple dozen items and then set up an ebay store to get started. Posting store inventory items only costs a nickel and once someone finds one of your auction items, hopefully they will visit your store and see other goodies. Hope this helps.

Your right on the traffic.

I currently have a website, along with a shopping cart. But it isn't 100% yet. I might take the eBay store route.

I know my list 150 of sales for march isn't much, but it's a start for a newbie like me.

Thanks for your help and advice!

I am a powerseller on ebay and I sell some vinyl stuff on ebay and it goes ok but most of this is a flood of the same crap over and over.  If you design it and it is selling and then it is not worth it.  The cost is high as well if I sell vinyl for $24 it cost me $10 of that in listing, final fee (ebay) and then PayPal.  Then take into account the cost of vinyl and your time which is now worth less then $4 an hour.  Everytime I come up with a gimmik someone vultures in and copies it, what a joke.  I am just going to load all my good stuff onto Etsy.com instead as ebay is killing me in fees!

I finally opened up a store today. Your right on the fees, they will kill you if you list "normally".

Good thread!

ebay has gotten way too expensive over the years. Someone mentioned etsy on here for their handcrafted items. I've had a good deal of success with etsy with some items, though the vinyl decal market is pretty saturated.

I wanted to toss another option out there for those who like that sort of venue...if you like etsy try Artfire. There are several people doing vinyl decals there too, but the nice thing is that it's very inexpensive to open a shop. They are running a special of $7/mo flat for life - no listing fees or commissions!! The regular price is $20/month. As of today there are 162 spots open for this rate. You can click here and I will earn brownie points if you sign up:  :thumbsup:http://www.artfire.com/modules.php?name=sevenforlife&afuid=15549

Artfire is newer and not as well known as etsy or ebay, but the nice thing about it is that it is much easier and quicker to list than etsy or ebay, in my opinion. I have yet to sell something there but I've gotten some inquiries from people so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

How do people sell stickers on ebay that are copyrighted logos.. i didn't read all the other pages but it seems to me like they could get in a lot of trouble selling stickers of other companies.. i searched this because i was curious on what kind of stickers you guys were selling to make your money..

i know of a friend that sold 3 volcom decals on ebay and he got a nice letter from them stating that they advise him to remove the 2 more that were listed at the time and not to put any more for sale or they would be seeking legal action...

what is your guys input..?

Okay... I know I commented on this tread when it started, but I haven't followed it since my last post.  I'm 100% certain I did search on "boy peeing obama" and didn't see calvin peeing on the change sign before I posted it on here and listed it on ebay.

My bad if I did that after you were listing it in your store.

I see both of us being from AZ we feel the same way about BO.

All you folks that have ebay stores, what type do you have I think there are three Basic, Premium and Anchor

I'm not sure, I have the one that is $16 a month. Basic I think.  I like it cause you can list stuff for 3 cents. If it don't sell..well your out all of 3 cents instead of 30-40 cents or whatever it is.

I just (about a week ago) signed up for auctiva because it was "free".  Well I just got an email today that "due to economic conditions, we need to start charging".  I dumped my account about 2 seconds after I read that.  I getting nickle and dimed to death already on fees.  I don't need any more no matter how small.  And to be honest I wasn't all that impressed with the templates anyways.

I'm going to try the flood the store with $3-5 dollar decals (including shipping) to see if I can generate the 10-20 decal a day biz some folks here have been talking about.

I did spring for a label printer this week to may shipping easier.   James605 thanks for the info on that!

OK that answers that question... I just signed on ad there is a letter there that says:

Dear Auctiva Customer:

You are an important member of the Auctiva family. We are proud to have been able to provide you with our eBay listing and marketing tools for free. Because we value your business, we wanted you to be the first to know that, starting in July, our services will no longer be completely free.

We did not come to this decision lightly. This adjustment was difficult for us to imagine after four years of being a completely free service. We are dedicated to providing you with the best service for your hard-earned dollars. The e-Commerce landscape is constantly evolving, and it has always been our promise to you to provide a full e-Commerce solution that will meet your needs today, tomorrow and in the future. As a result, we will have to begin charging for some of our services.

Despite this adjustment, we remain committed to providing you with great tools at a great value and we've worked hard to develop pricing plans that will be affordable for all sellers.

We want to make this transition as easy as possible for you. We will begin implementing the necessary changes on our site to accommodate our new pricing structure during the first week of June. As a valued customer, you'll have 30 days to evaluate and select a pricing plan, and we'll even help identify your best plan choice.

Fair & Flexible Pricing

With much time and careful consideration, we have developed five pricing packages to best meet the needs of the many different types of eBay sellers who use Auctiva.

We will help you select the plan that will offer you the lowest rates. If you are a smaller seller, we have a pay-per-use plan with no fixed monthly fee. Most customers who choose this plan will only pay a couple dollars per month. If you are a larger seller, we have affordable plans to fit your business model as well. We are confident that Auctiva is still the best value for you no matter what your business size.

Your Best Plan Choice

If we have 60-90 days of eBay sales data for you, we have already done the math to identify your most affordable plan choice. Once the site is fully released you will find that plan marked for you in our plan choices along with the numbers we used to reach that conclusion.

Where to Get Answers

No doubt, you will want to learn more about these pricing plans. You can view the new pricing plan comparison table here. We are also posting anticipated Q&A and a schedule for webinars in the community forums and monitoring them all weekend to help you get your questions answered.

Your business is very important to us. If there is anything we can do to ease this transition for you, please contact Customer Support.
