web design: wordpress / joomla plugin for decal design?

Do you have a website yet? I am working on a custom decal creator for mine currently. If you have a website, are you using Joomla, WordPress or what? For WordPress, you will not find a free plugin, but for Joomla, you may find a free module but it won't be good. If you know about coding, its basically just using the canvas in html5. And if you don't want to go through all of that, you can take the plugin that you did find and customize it through code if you know how. What plugin did you find already? Also, can you link to a boat name website so I can see what you're talking about for sure?
  2. Hey everyone So I have someone who wants 2 24"x32" magnets. It's part of a trade, so I won't make money off it. I already have everything I need also. Anyway, he wants the background of the magnet to be blue. I am having trouble getting the blue onto the magnet. Do you have any suggestions on how to transfer the big piece of vinyl to the magnet? I was trying it with and without tape and wasn't having luck. Maybe I just don't have enough hands, but any suggestions would be appreciated. I have paper tape and clear transfer tape, so I could use either one. Thanks for any suggestions.
  3. I call BS...i don't think it will take him 5 minutes, I think it's good enough to use as Is! But then again, I didn't load the file on my pc. From the first 2 original images, I couldn't even figure out exactly what he was going for until you posted that

    Any trademark experts in here?

Okay, so...there are state trademarks and there are federal trademarks. You can get a state trademark for under $200 usually. If your line has brought in some cash, try to trademark the saying in your state, see if it gets rejected or if you get it. However, there are alot of rules and regulations when it comes to trademarks. I dont believe that phrase can be trademarked because it's too generic. Think about it...have you ever read a book, or seen something in TV where someone says ...i just want to go to sleep, or I just want to drink a beer, etc. He's not getting paid when they say that. It's too generic. Ask him if it's a state or federal trademark and ask him to see it so your lawyer can examine it (you're lying here but he doesn't have to know that). I would call his bluff, but be nice about it.

    fastfood logo

And I like that the cow and chicken are not proportionate in size to one another. A small chicken or a big cow wouldn't work. I'm glad you did it like you did, I wouldn't change a thing.

    Logo design feedback

I like the top 2 and bottom 2, but my favorite is the bottom left. I like it alot.

    Lets talk about On-line Stores.

I have done a few online stores for people. I've used Joomla with MijoShop, WordPress with ecommerce, drupal and magneto. Done a few hand coded too. I like WordPress the best, its the easiest in my opinion. Alot of people say it's not safe, but if you take all the right precautions, its fine.

    My first two projects

I don't advertise (yet) but 50% of my work is semis with the logo, dot and vin numbers. But my main job is in the oil field, so it's easy to get jobs.

Need help with putting a vinyl layer on a magnet

Thanks everyone! I think I will try the wet install with no application tape. I can trim by hand, I have a big square, so I can get it even. I need to trim a little off the top or bottom of the magnet anyway since its almost a half inch too big. And thanks Mz Skeeter, i will be saving that page for future use! Wish would have known about that before, but now I know!

    Lets talk about pricing models.

So, I'm not as experienced as alot of guys here, but i have been doing decals for a few years as a side job. So with me being somewhat new, let me fill you in on my thoughts. When I started, I was like you. I was cheap. Free design, and sold cheap. I figured making 10 bucks was better than 0 bucks. I was wrong. First, you really need to add your time to the charge. You don't work for free. You may have all this vinyl, a big roll of transfer tape, and plenty of time, but once you start running low on tape and vinyl, then start thinking about making a new order for supplies, you realize you wernt charging enough because you end up digging in your own pocket for more supplies. You end up losing money honestly. A few of my first clients are starting to come back needing more stuff, and when I give them a higher quote than when I started, I let them know i was making no money before, so I had to start charging more. Not one of them turned away believe it or not. They respect the fact that you are in the business of making money, and they are willing to pay your price. Most of them have a business, so they understand where you are coming from. One thing that was not mentioned, and some people here may not like this, but i do not install. Sure I will if they are a buddy or something, but by not installing the decals, I see it as a way of making more money. If they mess up putting it on, I ask them to send me a picture and maybe I can walk them through how to fix it, but if they can't fix it, I offer to make them a new one at a discounted price, which i still make money on, so it's a win-win, and they think they're getting a good deal, but i always ask for a picture for proof so I know I'm not getting ripped off.

    Best software for auto signs

My guess is he is using Sure Cuts A Lot Pro. If that's what you are using, it is similar to what the guy above me said, you have to adjust your workspace size. I'm not in front of my PC, but if you need help on how to do it, let me know. Also, for what you need it for, sure cuts a lot is good. It may be basic, but you are mainly using it for numbers and letters, so what features do you have that you can't find? You could use illustrator if you want to pay that much, that's what I use (and photoshop).

    Iron on vinyl question

Hey everyone I have a hoodie that I was thinking about making for myself. I was curious how iron on vinyl looks and cuts. I have never even used those store bought iron in letters, so I don't know if it looks good or cheap. I don't want to go the screen printing route because I'm only wanting one... Thanks

    Oracal 651 and customer issue

Hey everyone I made a few decals for a customer using black Oracal 651. Cut fine and everything, but the customer said they were to thin. Has anyone ran into a customer saying this before? Not sure how to respond to him. Thanks

    Oracal 651 and customer issue

I hate that. Question for you, if you don't have a store, and you sell locally, how do you give the decals to your customer? In a tube, padded envelope or what? Also, what would you charge for the decal I posted above? Just trying to get ideas and make sure I'm in the right ballpark. Thanks!

    Oracal 651 and customer issue

Here is the jpg. I altered it some, but it's on my computer and I'm not at home. I made the lines in the mountain alot thicker. I can post pictures of that when I get home. Also, ignore the big black spot at the bottom, I had to blur out his phone number.

    Oracal 651 and customer issue

Not at all. It was basically text with a mountain outline, but the outline was about 1/4 inch wide. He also wanted it on a white backing, so it was on a 12x8 inch solid white oracal 651, with the transfer tape over it. Im thinking he pulled the transfer tape off and tried to put it on that way. On a similar note, what would you charge for a decal like this? I'm still new to pricing. 12x8 inch white background, and the text and mountain was 6x10 in the middle. Thanks

    Jagged edge issue

Hey everyone I was making a sign for someone and I'm having an issue with my letters not coming out crisp. I have a budget machine, MH871 MK2, running SCALP on my pc. I tried slowing the cut speed down, but it didn't help. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Chrome vinyl

Hey everyone I am looking for chrome vinyl. All of the chrome vinyl I have seen says it stretches. I have someone who needs a few 22"×48" chrome decals and I am nervous about the fact that it states that the vinyl is stretchy. The vinyl is 3M. Has anyone used expandable/stretchy vinyl? Is it different to cut? Thank

Thank you! I will order some now. It is less expensive than the stuff I was looking at too. Thank you very much!
