My first car job.... Need feedback. :) Thanks
slice&dice replied to LLaurence's topic in Show your work
Uh, what's a "Heider" ? -
It's not a "FONT" at all -- you can tell because letters such as "D" and "I" aren't the same from word to word. This is strictly someone's custom graphics work.

I was mentioning names that were recognizable, just as illustration of "competition" and how the "marketplace" functions. Do you think that ROLAND is thrilled with cheap Chinese knock-off cutters which are popping up everywhere? I can guarantee that ROLAND loses sales to them. Your original opening post (since deleted and replaced with sarcasm) was discussing "pricing" and how people chop prices, and copy your style of operation and/or business model. Well, the size of your town means nothing. Anyone can bake cupcakes & pies and open a bake sale booth. Anyone can buy a hot dog cart and become a hot dog vendor. Anyone can order a vinyl cutter and start a decal business. Happens every day, all across the USA. That's why USCUTTER is in business, they sell under- $400 machines to anyone who feels it's worth their while to learn the craft.

"won't" happen You got into a business that uses 1980's technology. (Vinyl cutters operate the same way today since the first ones produced by HP using HPGL) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plotter

What cutting software are you using?
-
I am not sure I even understand the rant. McDonald's has Wendy's and Bob's Big Boy and BK. Papa John has Domino's and Gino's and Lil' Caesar's WalMart has Ollie's and KMart and BigLots/JobLots. Canon has Nikon, Minolta, Sony, Fuji. USCUTTER has SignWarehouse and CutterPros. Did you come up with a business that was so unique and utilizes proprietary software and has secret ingredients? No? Me neither.

You are fine, just use the converter, no problem.

Yes, there's a ground wire that runs from the bottom of the MH machine and attaches to bare metal (scrape away some of the painted surface on one of the brackets or use a self-tapping screw to assure a good ground). What this thread noted was wire attached into the cutting head on machines like the TC. It's for the laser-alignment light.

Install a program called IRFANVIEW (and also the plug-in pack) and try to open the .eps file, then copy-paste. -
What is the basket option on the Pcut used for?
slice&dice replied to Luvmydane's topic in Pre-sale questions
I posted a thread recently about getting and installing a $40 media basket that USCUTTER is selling for the LPII machine, and I drilled holes and got it to fit my SC. http://forum.uscutter.com/index.php?/topic/39737-who-wants-a-great-deal-on-a-media-catch-basket/?hl=%2Bmedia+%2Bbasket -
The wires you see on the SC, TC, etc. are insulated wires that attach to a laser light. They're not functioning as 'ground' wires at all.

do you ever feel like this around here?
slice&dice replied to Dakotagrafx's topic in Off Topic Section
I used to literally just sit and READ at random through the volumes, finding out about the world around us and learning about our civilization. It made me a better person, I would venture to say. I'm saving these and not getting rid of them, I want my grandson/granddaughter to experience the joy of reference books. (Although they are from the 1990's, the information about history is still valid, albeit not updated to the 21st century) -
There will be no damage caused to the blade by hitting the nylon cutting strip repeatedly. Leave it alone, don't waste a moment concerning yourself about that.

<spell check>---"taught"--- </spell> I have an entire WorldBook set on the shelf, and it was NEVER opened by my son (he is now 21). I sure wouldn't want to be an encyclopedia salesman these days! -
Winnebago | 1991, apply new vinyl
slice&dice replied to GreenTech's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
You betcha! As GreenTech noted, the surface is fairly smooth after a bit of light sanding, and applying vinyl over the existing graphics is OK. If it was my vehicle, I would simply lay 15" maroon vinyl down the entire side to cover the graphic completely (with a break in the middle for the offset) Then, I'd go ahead and place on some smaller cut-vinyl designs to accent. -
I wonder how many there are today? USCUTTER is to be commended for providing our little sign-making community this valuable DiscussionForum, along with a wide assortment of excellent products.

Software for Customer to Design custom decals and signs
slice&dice replied to jderry1978's topic in General discussion
The average customer is not qualified to be a sign designer, in my opinion. Unless it's just an extra-simple sign. If you want to see an example of "Design Your Own" go to Staples' banner ordering website. -
I have enjoyed using the 10-DVD set of 34,000 ready-to-cut graphics that I obtained on eBay for $50. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NO-RESERVE-AUCTION-HUGE-MEGA-VECTOR-CLIPART-FOR-SIGN-VINYL-PLOTTER-CUTTER-/321102578065

Hi. What equipment?
-
Decals of what designs? Skulls? Dragons? Tribal art? Horses? Unicorns? Give us some guide as to what you're trying to accomplish.

Blades are dirt cheap, keep a supply of them on hand and replace them whenever you feel they are "tearing" rather than slicing cleanly.

Another successful thread, with a resolution that works. Dennis, welcome to the Forum, and if you have anything to share back to our community, please don't hesitate! (Tips, tricks, ideas, examples of work, etc.)

---- By the way, there is another cool feature in SignBlazer that lets you take a photo and transform it into a cuttable file. Import the picture (.jpg) and then go to Image menu - ImageCut. Depending on the original photo, this can work really well.
