  1. It would be nice to have a new SB but I'll have to wait. Financials are not good at the moment. And considering the price of most software, I would never be able to buy it anyway. Not for quite some time anyway... Of course if I had a brain, the cutter would be paying for itself... Ah-well... Such is life...
  2. Thanks. But if I had $500...
  3. Nice to know (that I was right ) Now if it was only priced like SB, I could afford to give it a try...
  4. I always enjoy your humor Rodger I could be wrong here but I thought LXi was a re-branded Flexi? Maybe I'm thinking of some other program? Maybe I'm just not thinking?
  5. karkess & Rodger are right. When I was young and working in a truck shop, they used to repair leaky cracked fuel tanks by welding them up right on the truck. But they had to be full, and done in the street. The insurance company wouldn't allow such work to be done in the building or even on the lot...
  6. What? Not sure what you mean Rodger? (and I gave up on scalp quite a while ago...)

Security Sign WIth Real Bullet Holes

Thanks WiL 1978! I haven't seen anything in a long time that I just had to have (and make) but this is great. Unfortunately now I have to find some nice metal sign boards to make them with since they would show the bullet holes better And as usual, I show up after the party's over...

    EPS thumnails in windows explorer

Thanks! I just tried Sage Thumbs and it seems to work very well. I would give the codec a try but I have to be a bit frugal at the moment...

    Corel plugin???

I am just curious if anyone using Scalp has also used the Corel plugin? I have yet to get anything done with Scalp due to it's limitations and bizare interface. Then I thought of just using it for cutting since I do most designing in Corle anyway. So I installed the plugin. It does come up on the Corel menu. I can click on it to send to Scalp. Then I get a hhuge and complex error window that pretty much incomprehnsible. I click Okay and get the little windows of sending to Scalp. Then absolutely nothing.... I've tried with Scalp already open and Scalp closed. Still nothing... I'm using Corel X3 on an XP machine with Scalp 3.048 (I believe). I have 3.052 but haven't bothered to install it yet and probably won't..... So if you've gotten the plugin to work, please just let me know so I don't go off and beat my head on a wall for nothing. Although this seems like the end of the road for Scalp... Thanks...

    New font into SB ?

Maybe answers are taking longer because the folks are getting older? Everything takes longer...

    Corel plugin???

Thanks for the info. I wanted to try a "simple" graphic (and maybe did; have a really terrible memory). But every time I give scalp a go, it doesn't. I have yet to even try cutting with it as I just give up in frustration every single time and go back to SB. It's a great time waster though. After all, we all have so much free time to waste...

    John Deere Trackor

The front bucket keeps a goodly amount of weight on those front tires! Would have no use for a tractor that didn't have a good front bucket... And I like my old Ferguson. I see no reason to get rid of something just because it's old. As long as it does the job, there's nothing wrong with it. And if someone out there wanted to buy me a new tractor, I wouldn't have anything against that either! :bear:

    John Deere Trackor

Don't knock those "old" tractors. I'm still running a '53 Ferguson TO30. Almost as old as me and works almost as well. Maybe some day they can toss us both in the same hole

Gees, that all sounds like one of my better days!

    Cutter Upgrade

First off, remember that there are far more poeple happy with their MH cutters than unhappy. You mostly only hear about the problems on the forum... Now, back before I bought my cutter, I spent months reading most of the posts on this forum. The general opinion back then was skip the MH and buy a PCut. So I did and have been happy ever since. It's the same cutter as the Laserpoint ( LP I, not LP II). Almost all PCut owners are happy with them. Also now, USC has the SC line. I have no experience with them. The bottom line advice is always "Buy the best cutter you can afford" and that holds true. As far as you getting used to a big cutter? Well, you didn't mention what software you use as most of the work is through the software. Once set up, the cutter just cuts... The only real differences would be how the vinyl loads and setting the offset in the software and blade depth, pressure and speed on the cutter. It all should take no more than 20 minutes and you'll be on your way. The two big issues that I know of will be putting the stand together (no decent directions) and trying to decide between a 24" or 36" ;-) And yes, buy a stand with the cutter!!! Good luck and have fun!

    Corel plugin???

Okay then. Seems like nmoone else has it working either...
  17. Reading all that, makes me wonder why they aren't here any more?? But if they're coming back Rodger, ya better get yer pink on!

    First time using machine

Do what Mz Skeeter says! And if you want people to help, you really have to supply enough info for them to work with! What OS are you using (version of windows or mac) How is the cutter connected? USB, USB->Keyspan, serial port? If USB, everyone will suggest moving to direct serial port or Keyspan adapter. What port is connected and what port did you choose in the software? What cutter did you choose on the menu? The PCut is a great cutter and it is all "easy" once you figure it out. I spent months reading just about every post in these forums before I bought my PCut... I'm also amazed you figured out Scalp. I have yet to design, import or cut anything with it... Download and install Signblazer and give that a try. It's MUCH easier to work with!

    Openfont?

Seems the OP disappeared? I thought SB worked with any system font that was installed? If I get the time, I'll have to check, especially since I'll have to cut an opentype font soon... But if the OP still needs it, SB won't work with it, and they can't convert it, send it to me and I'll try converting it to truetype...

    Text in shapes

Congrats Rodger on both your 6000th and your nice PINK cake Hmmm, after 6000, can you still remeber your first???

Where are all those billions of cicadas?

Love those ants! Great job! But now I'll have to find some other odd insect to place all over my van... So, who's printing the cicada decals? Rodger: not hibernating. Just working too hard and burning out what little brains I had left...
  23. What, nobody did Forth??? I still have a Sinclair in the closet, various Atari's in the garage and a PDP-11 (complete with paper tape teletype) out in the shed. Computers are fun, or, used to be before they became my job
  24. BearlyRich

Where are all those billions of cicadas?

Why not make a few thousand cicada decals and stick 'em up all over the place? And for Rodger, you could even make pink ones! They've never been that bad up here thank goodness...
  25. Looks like I'm going to have to make an outdoor sign for a project my wife manages. We're talking now of a 3'x4' sign supported by two 4"x4" posts. It may get bigger by the time everyone is done discussing it all? My first thought was exterior plywood. Then I started putting more thought into it... Yes, I did a search of the forums going back several years I've seen suggestions of plywood, MDO, Alumalite and some others. Seems Alumalite might be a bit expensive... Now if someone has experience and would like to comment, I would greatly appreciate it as I have zero experience outside of making small coroplast yard signs... One other thing. Since my wife manages this project and it's a non-profit thing, I may be picking up the tab for the sign. So cost is a factor Would be nice if I could pick up the material at a Lowes too as by the time they decide on what thjey want, mailorder might be slow and add expense? I'm already going to have to buy a new roll on vinyl for this and who knows what else? I do however want this sign to look good and last for a goodly time. Any help and suggesttions are welcomed. Thanks, Rich...
