the price is pretty much priced fixed like the high end plotters - unfortunately the first set in the printer takes ink to prime the lines and heads - not nearly as bad as the early ones though - my first ricoh took over 1/2 the carts to prime the lines - new ones are not nearly as bad and it is only one time the lines need filled on the new printer

That explains why after 2 weeks when I got it I had to replace my yellow. I called sawgrass and they told me that was normal. I’m not joking I lost it till I did some more homework and it is maintenance but shouldn’t have lasted only 2 weeks. Long story short I got a new yellow and it seems to be a lot better. I’m due for a first change in C & M now lol

  2. So I knew what I was getting into with sublimation and the price of it but who don’t like to save money here and there. so my sawgrass 400 is ready for ink. I been looking on different sites and happy to see many different people have them but in that I was hoping to strike a deal but it’s the same no matter what site $77.00 per color plus shipping.

Anyone know anything maybe I am missing. If not it is what it is like I said I knew what I was signing up for hahah

  3. So I’m a big saints fan living in NY as some of you know and I couldn’t pass up this font I found in my illustrator. Love the font. Well without further ado I’m sure you’ll all get this if you watched any playoff football this season.

  4. I use illustrator and since your use is going to be for your company I would totally recommend it. I believe I paid $200 for a year but I promise it’s well worth the investment. I use a graphtec and I can save my files right in AI and send it right to my software from my machine and it cuts beautiful.

Definitely don’t forget to mirror your design, I learned fast after wasting some vinyl and now it’s just in my head permanently from preventing me from losing money hahah

i heard that if you have the right transfer (for heat clearly) you can always lay it over your un-mirrored image and transfer like that but I never tried nor do I want to I rather do it right the first time but as you learn maybe it will save you vinyl if you make mistakes.

  5. Thanks for the information goose! why would you hate being the only guy giving me advice? your advice is always spot on and I definitely appreciate it.

The pressure reading was what really caught my attention over the auto open honestly lol I never heard of that feature showing pressure but then again Im a small shop just trying to grow. now let me as you can I force it open if i happen to activate the auto open or do I just have to run the time and let it open on its own? awesome to know I can alway find parts I really like that.

Does the platen it come with good enough for most hats ? I would hate to purchase and then get a few different style hats and learn the hard way that I need to purchase a few platens at $75 each.

Im all for investing in what I teach myself if it makes me money, but so this price point you agree is 110% worth it? I know I said I don't do high volume but I do always like spending my money in the right equipment plus I work a full time so if it cost me a little out of pocket for a little Im sure once I get the hats on the market and my etsy shop I can make some back quickly.

again thanks goose your feedback is much appreciated.

  6. Hey guys!

been doing some research of cap press machines and I come down to deciding on the Stahls Maxx or the Hotronix auto cap press. I hear there is an awesome profit margin in the hat area so figured Id make the move and purchase a very well off machine rather then a budget one and risk possible issues. The reason I can't decide is due to just a $150.00 dollar difference. I know the hotronix reads the pressure apparently for you and its clearly auto open, while the maxx seems to be the same without those 2 options. I don't do insane volume so auto open isn't a priority (yet) but then I think its only a $150 more so do I just get it so later down the line I don't kick myself in the ass? Anyone have any input on how each machine functions. I watched a lot of youtube videos and been reading peoples reviews I can't say I seen ONE negative one on both machines which is a nice thought and gives me peace of mind spending my money as I try and expand my home shop but I just want some more info on which one and if anyone has experience with them.. pros / cons / ETC.

Thanks in advance for your feedback hope to hear from you guys.

  7. I got F&M’s sample sheet this past weekend and I finally had time to text the formula that I was interested in. Let me tell you I’m super impressed and I just hope it holds up to the wash test. I did go a little high on temp but that’s cause every review said to raise it as well as I saw a lot of YouTube videos showing the issues. So off the bat I put it to 355 with heavy pressure for 10 seconds and it came out beautiful. Clearly this is now a demo shirt and I don’t own the rights to this logo it’s just clearly what they sent me in the free sample packaging. Lol

I run my Graphtecs on old 2006 Toshiba laptop with Windows XP.  I never have problems.  The last couple I picked up were less than $100 with Free ship.    I also picked up a couple Toshiba with Windows 7, not much more than $100.  Keep checking online,  plenty for sale.   I have spare laptops all set up for my Graphtec, with all the designs loaded. Just in case a computer fails.  I can just put another PC right and go again.  You will learn , you need to keep spares of most things, if your going to run a serious business.   I have never been down in 13 years.

For this software, you need at least Windows 7, I think.  I picked up a cheap 17" Toshiba windows 7 and installed Windows 10 on it that i got for cheap.

Wow that’s awesome to hear and congratulations on your 13 years without being down ! I did hear about programs for pc and not for Mac so I always considered it but I’m just an in home shop at the moment so I never really spent much time on the PC topic or getting something together so cheap like that. Thanks I’m looking into that now! Have you had issues with windows 10? I heard a lot of people had some issues when they released an update I believe. Especially with the sawgrass printer that I have the 400 model.

If your just contour cutting, then the holder would be in the back, over the cutting strip,  no different than just cutting vinyl. Your not cutting thru the vinyl contour cutting.   My FC8000  blade holder is the same way.  But I have never used the ARMS on it.. The channel on mine is probably wider, as my cutter has the cross cutting feature on it.

Too bad your not running on Windows,  Graphtec offers some really nice design and cutting software for FREE worth over $1000. Similar to Flexisignpro

    https://www.graphtecamerica.com/cp-graphtec-pro-studio-request-form

I might have to buy a PC now I didn't know this & had my graphtec almost a year now. (may) Mac works flawless though I know many people are not a fan from what I see / read but thankfully nothing major here.

I figure if we don;t know what software is being used - while waiting on the answer we might as well work on the correct terminology -I think cricut started the incorrect use of die cutting - and like the 1/2 credit card trick is wrong and just won't die.

when I first started .. OMG that credit card saying was a nightmare ... I ended up adjusting it nonstop till i got it cause I felt the internet knew nothing hahah till I of course now found you guys !

In VM you would select the word "Police" and the black bar.  Then "weld".   This will make it all one big piece.

"Weld" is found in the side menu, near the bottom.  The icon is two white, overlapping boxes.  That will open the shaping and welding tools.

missed that one too lol Weld will do the trick !

I have grouped the image but it still shows the top line of the box under the letters

Grouped it basically making them moveable together after you set everything where you wanted it and keeping it locked to one another. every program I have used has been a little different but its called merge or join do do what I believe your trying to do.

I believe your actual question is simply about the stock designs offered by FM to buy and use. I think those are aimed at the sidewalk vendors that set up in various beach fronts or along boardwalks and flea markets etc... I think it prudent to have a chat with them about the uses allowed but if they are offering them out for retail production they SHOULD be safe. FM is pretty big and would be a target if they were doing something silly.  The watermarks might be to help with online screen capture and maybe they only had them on some or maybe those particular are under a different license agreement, only they know for sure.

Yes that’s exactly what I was aiming towards and I thought about it and your right I’m sure that they should be safe because your right I see that they are a big company and it would be super silly of them to be that lenient  with selling designs like those stocks. There is a section that actually says as seen on amazon, as well as most popular. Like I said I don’t plan to steal anything but it’s good to know at some point down the line if someone asks me for something and FM some how has it I can use it to save time depending how many are needed and know that I’m covered and not breaking any sort of copyright or rules.

"So if it’s not traced back to anything is it technically a free use ?"

    Uh, no.

Lol ok I will be looking into a lot more stuff I’m building my own brand (well trying to) and I want to make sure it’s as original as I can to protect myself. back to google I go to make sure whatever I create isn’t somewhere out in the internet already.

  15. 1 minute ago, MZ SKEETER said:

I already knew that..  A google reverse image search shows most all of the sites that the image is from.   Copyright/trademark lawyers know that also.

Least I was honest about it right lol

but no I understand appreciate all the information and little refresher course. Didn’t no about that google reverse you are talking about. So if it’s not traced back to anything is it technically a free use ?

possible those watered marked are designs that they made. Maybe others are designs that they purchased and can resell. Or from the public domain library.

Yeah that’s what I was assuming. I plan on not using them but I would just like to know to protect myself and do the right thing by anyone. I’m not here to steal and I know copyright is pretty much everything like you said so you got to just tweak and come up with your own original flavor. Or of course get permission

TrackHawk, for example, let's take your own Forum image here (the car front). Where is that from? Did you create it? Do you own the rights to it?

I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee so my honesty to you is I just googled jeep and took this for profile picture use only. Sorry if that was against the rules.

Anything is copyrighted as soon as it is created.  It does not have to be registered, just created. Anything you already see is copyrighted/trademarked.  And you cannot make it like someone else.

Yes I do know all that it’s just weird how F&M sells stock and some they sell have no watermark over it and some they do. If you have to contact them for permission why even allow people to add it to their carts?

Sorry for confusion I’m sure I didn’t explain myself correctly.

You need to ask the company for "their" license info.  Bet they would direct you right to it.  They have a "Contact Us" link.

I understand what your saying. So it don’t matter if they have copyrighted over the image or not before you purchase you really should contact them about reselling that design?
