MH 871 Force setting

Recommended Posts

There are not any proper settings for any vinyl cutter. Even same brands can be different. You must make adjustments to what works with the vinyl that you are cutting.  You must first, make sure the blade depth is correct. That determines your force. It is VERY important to get the blade depth correct first. Start speed slow, It's not a race.

To start with, you should set your blade depth correctly, by taking the blade holder out of the machine, and firmly cut across a piece of scrap vinyl, you will be cutting. You should only be cutting the vinyl and barely a mark on wax paper backing, Adjust blade to get there, Then put the blade holder back in machine, and use the force of the machine to get there, same results, only cutting the vinyl and barely a mark in wax paper backing. You should barely see and feel the blade out of the blade holder. Regular sign vinyl is only 2-3 mil thick. You only cut with the very tip of the blade.

Different settings make a huge difference on cutting thru the vinyl, or hacking up your vinyl. Quality of cuts.   The MH is a value cutter. All vinyl cutters have to be fine tuned to cut correctly.

You can start with 80 and see how that goes. Using Skeeter's method, you can dial it in.

I use 80-90 for regular colors of calendared vinyl (with an SC2) and with white, I run it at 110.

Use the TEST function to make a sample cut and see if you're getting the results you want (just barely scoring the backing paper).

Thanks fellas.  Skeeter's information I hadn't heard of before!!

This info about blade depth has been posted hundreds and hundreds of times on this forum as well as being in INSTRUCTIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS on the site.  Do some searching on your own.  Force and settings are common questions and have been posted and answered, hundreds of times on here.  There is a search box in upper right hand corner.
