rebjr 0 Posted September 7, 2008 Jenny, If you ever want to do mugs again but don't want to mess with the upkeep of sublimation the Okidate LED printer combined with a special paper and mugs coated for laser work excellent. The mugs are cheaper than sub mugs as well. Good work. And I know that once ya do mugs they are in your blood. Bob
Benr98 40 Posted September 7, 2008 Bob I do have an Oki 5200. Does that paper work with my model? Do you use OEM toner? I really like the vivid colors of dye sub. Looking forward to learning more from ya Bob. Jenny
rebjr 0 Posted September 7, 2008 Yes, the paper works with any/all Oki LED printers, of which the 5200 is one. Unfortunately it does not give the deep, rich, glossy color that you get with sublimation. But, for those folks who don't have a large sublimation business it is a very great alternative. Matter of fact the OKI LED's offer alternatives to a lot of other than paper printing, with OEM toners. Bob
kburk 2 Posted September 17, 2008 Nice mugs Hey this is something I was wondering about I need stuff like this for promo. How much and how tuff is this to do in short runs say 20 to 30 cups per design. I would max out I think at about 150 cups very small amount but I would be doing logos and such for My company and a few other I know thanks Keith
Benr98 40 Posted September 17, 2008 Keith, if you are asking about Dye-sub it is very durable! I have mugs over 3 years old that have gone thru the dishwasher a couple times a week for close to 3 years and still look like the day we made them! Dye-sub isn't cheap, but discounts can be given for certain qtys. If you are asking about using OEM toner, than I don't know as I've never gotten the paper to try it. kburk 2 Posted September 17, 2008 Thanks Jenny, I would like to buy a mug press and on a small scale make some mugs. I will hit the net and find out what I need to do this. Cheers Keith
Benr98 40 Posted September 17, 2008 Keith, if you are considering dye sub I can provide you some links to give you understanding what it's all about and the costs. Jenny
SiboleGraphix 1 Posted September 17, 2008 Oooh, I love those mugs Jenny! Especially the fish one, and your business one. Awesome work! How did I miss this post the first time around? Amber

kburk 2 Posted September 18, 2008 Hey Jenny, I would like to do short runs with a few diffrent logos. When I got the vinyl cutter it was just to do some signs for myself. Now I'm doing Banner and Signs for a bunch of my clients and the other companies I work with. So on that note what do you suggest ? First and formost it would be promo stuff from my company to my clients. Kind of a HEY DON'T FORGET ABOUT ME!!! In commercial construction they use you and throw you out :'( Really I'm getting tired of buying donuts for everone. Cheap is ok but if the cup looks crappy in 6 months how is my work in 6 months :- I'm very good at what I do and I would like to make/give client and others a gift to say thanks guys for all the work, or hey What about De Sol for the work you thinking of doing. Every body drinks Coffie in Vancouver B.C.!! I would like to make other things aslo but I just have not figured out what yet? Anyhow yes if you could point me in a direction because I know nothing about it. Keith
Benr98 40 Posted September 19, 2008 Hi Keith, Well if you want a mug that is going to look AWESOME 12 months or more from now, Dye Sublimation can't be beat. The inks aren't cheap around $900 for a set of all the colors, but they do last ALONG time. I did printing here and there 3 years ago...I still have ink left and it still runs flawlessly. You do have to run your printer with the dye sub inks a couple times a week just to keep the heads from clogging, it's no big deal...you can print the sample square pattern thru the software..takes a matter of seconds. Depending on the people/companies you want to remember you, the cost just may offset that cost of inks and dye sub products. Here are a few links to get a better understanding and the cost. I wouldn't recommend it for shirts, ONLY because of the cost of the special coated shirt you would need. They have come quite a ways with using laser printers with a dye sub toner...but if you choose to go that way, I would only use THAT laser printer for dye sub. If you do decide to go with dye sub...definitely check around for the best prices. Here are just a small sample of places you can check out. http://novachromeusa.com/ http://www.johnsonplastics.com/ http://sublimationcartridge.com/ http://www.dyesub.org/ http://www.bestblanks.com/inks.html http://www.howstuffworks.com/question583.htm Hope this helps you out. Any other questions don't hesitate to ask. Jenny
