PawPaw30157 0 Posted March 18 I have just received my US Cutter SC-34 and my Vinyl Master Cut V5.0 - after having upgraded from Silhouette 3.0. I have followed all the steps in the directions and watched a few videos but i cannot get my software to detect the cutter. The computer recognizes it as I hear the tone for plugging in a new device. the software will download the drivers. It just will not detect it when I tell it to detect in the spooler. At first, I installed the cutter when I installed the software. When I tried to do my fisrt cut, it would not send it to the cutter. So, I removed it in the spooler and then readded it. As I said above, it will load the drivers then it will not detect it. I have tried it in 3 different USB ports on my computer (desktop). Any help or advice? MZ SKEETER 4,720 Posted March 18 After installing and running the driver, reboot your computer. Go into your device manager on computer, Look for the com port # your driver choose. it must be between 1-4, nothing higher. If not then change the number to 1-4. Then go into VM> DIRECT COM and choose the same number. They must match. This cutter is not TRUE USB like the Graphtec.

When loooking in Device Manager, I see two things that populate once the cutter is turned on: "Other Devices - LIYU CUTTING PLOTTERPort" and 'Ports (COM and LPT) - USB Serial Device (COM3)". However, both of these have the cuation icon on them. The first one says the "The drivers for this device are not installed" and the second one says, "the device cannot start. A device which does not exist was specified" Again, I have downloaded the drivers and loaded them - several times.
MZ SKEETER 4,720 Posted March 19 You have never stated which operating system that you are using. Go online and find the correct FTDI driver for your operating system and make sure it installs correctly. You are rebooting your computer after running and installing the driver, Correct? Possibly show screen shots. It's COM 3, Do the rest of the set up now. Go into DIRECT COM. Match Com 3 Don't use Detect. Use DIRECT COM. Once done you cannot keep changing the ports on your computer. Every time you change the com port, you may also be changing the com port number in your computer device manager, then the com port numbers will no longer match. A Tripp-Lite Keyspan Adapter, is also highly recommended on value cutters. That is the brand name. You use it with the null modem cable that came with your cutter. it has it's own driver to connect with. Much better connection, than the cheap Chinese chipset in the value cutters. if that doesn't work, contact UScutter tech support when they are open. Pacific time. I have also checked to make sure I have the updated drivers for the USB ports. Yes, I am rebooting the computer after anything I do. When I install and go do the spooler for the first time, the COM3 shows (Direct COM), but it is greyed out and will not allow me to click on it. It does show something out beside it, but I don't remember what it exactly says - I am currently at work. I'll give the same advice as recently offered to another person having COM (usb) issues. STM32 vcp https://mydrivers.online/software/stm32-virtual-com-port-driver andhttps://quadmeup.com/stm32-virtualcomport-driver-for-windows Thank you. PawPaw30157 0 Posted March 19 I'll give the same advice as recently offered to another person having COM (usb) issues. STM32 vcp https://mydrivers.online/software/stm32-virtual-com-port-driver andhttps://quadmeup.com/stm32-virtualcomport-driver-for-windows The first link doesn't work for me. What is the STM32 vcp? How does it work and how would this fix my situation? Maybe this information is in the link that doesn't work?
MZ SKEETER 4,720 Posted March 19 Have you gone into, the device manager, COM 3 properties and made sure the driver is correctly installed? No Yellow checkmarks? You mentioned Caution icons above. Can you show screenshots?

Can you show screenshots? I have followed all advice for getting this repaired. I have installed the driver several times. The driver is up to date - per the system. The funny thing is that the driver was downloaded from this software. Also note that COM3 is greyed out. I am currently on hgold with US Cutter
PawPaw30157 0 Posted March 19 I'll give the same advice as recently offered to another person having COM (usb) issues. STM32 vcp https://mydrivers.online/software/stm32-virtual-com-port-driver andhttps://quadmeup.com/stm32-virtualcomport-driver-for-windows OK - I installed the STM32 vcp and this worked perfectly. I was able to make my first cut. THANK YOU slice&dice. I scribbled out the F-bomb as I don't know if that is allowed in her or not. I will be making a bunch of these in blue. I used yellow for this one as it if my least liked color and I had some laying around. Now I just gotta learn the software (just CUT for now) and then upgrade to PRO.... Where is the best place to get videos for learning the suftware? Obviously YouTube, but what channel?
slice&dice 2,467 Posted March 19 I don't know why it works, but it does. Sorry about the broken link, that's what happens with these obscure drivers (the STM32 cvp is used for drone controller installs). What it does is create a Device with a virtual com port. Kinda cool, actually. As for learning how to best utilize the sofware, try the HELP menu, and fool around. Most things the average person will encounter can be handled by the CUT version, including the terrific Vector Engine for converting raster to lines/paths. The CUT library of clip-art graphics is limited, and if you are looking for a wider selection of pre-made designs, let me know, I have a good method (free) for obtaining plenty of them! PawPaw30157 0 Posted March 20 The CUT library of clip-art graphics is limited, and if you are looking for a wider selection of pre-made designs, let me know, I have a good method (free) for obtaining plenty of them! I appreciate that. I have a very niche market that I plan to focus on. Jeeps mainly - my wife and I both own Jeeps and are active in that lifestyle. While I plan on upgrading to Pro, possibly DSR, I want to get to know the basic of the software first. What I would really like to do right now is find a flat image of the Jeep JK, JKU, JL, JLU and JT so that i can start laying out some designs....Know where I could get that without breaking the bank? MZ SKEETER - I would also like to thank you for your time, response and efforts as well.
MZ SKEETER 4,720 Posted March 20 You are very welcome. There are trial versions of Vinyl Master that you can download for Free, so you can see the different versions.
slice&dice 2,467 Posted March 20 There's a chart somewhere with the comparisons of features -- what's included, what's not -- all along the upgrade levels. If you have a Jeep parked there in front of you, take a good straight-on photo (s) and include an easily identifiable and measurable thing in the pic. (when I do a wall install, a brick is that thing) When you import the photo as a .jpg, just insert a rectangle that is the exact size of that thing. When they match in size after zooming/expanding, now you'll have a full-sized image on screen, allowing you to create the workspace(s) required.
