Vinyl not sticking for me either

Recommended Posts

Guest TracMatt

I am wondering if I am doing things correctly.  I have Eco film which came highly recommended to me by others.  I have the USCutter clamshell heat press on 150 degrees.  It says to prepress for 4 minutes, then press for 10-15.  It doesn't matter if I do it for 10 or 20 or longer, the vinyl does not stick well.  It is supposed to be like flush with the fabric almost like screenprinting but that isn't working.  Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Tracee

First I think you mean 4 SECONDS not MINUTES.  Second off, I wouldn't give Imprintable the sweat off my @#$% and third off, I'd get an infared thremometer and check the temperature.  Your machine is in celcius not farenheit correct?  Because if it is farenheit then 150 is way too low.

You sure you're not suppose to prepress for 4 seconds... instead of 4 minutes? That just seems like an extremely long time.

Yes, you should pre-press the garment for about 4-5 seconds, not minutes. I would suggest using a higher temp, like maybe 160-175C, and then press the Eco to the garment for about 20 seconds.

Yes firemalt and I "think" that's what Shitprinable's recommends their eco to be pressed at.  At least that's what their junk ass Spectra Cut II was recommended at and this is exactly what it did for me too.  I lost a big contract because that no good for nothing Josh from there flat out lied to me and I was the one looking like a fool to my customer.

Never again will he though.  I'm done with that place forever.

I use Poli-Flex (same as Thermo flex) and I never had a problem. I love it.

If you want, I can send you a sample for you to try.

Okay just got home and read all the posts.  I did mean 4 seconds sorry.  I tried turning it up a little to around 170 and doing it for 20 seconds and it bubbles and looks like poop then, but it doesn't come off.  It is weird some come out okay some don't.  Most don't.

I just did a large order and had trouble getting it to stick so I went with the bubbly look. Now I'm nervous they are going to call and tell me it is falling off.

I was wondering if you could tell me where to get the infared thermometer? And where you can get the thermo-flex or poli-flex?  I guess I won't bother with the eco again either if that is the case.  And yes I meant celcius as well, that is how the heat press comes.

Thanks,

Tracee

Tracee any auto parts store should have them and maybe even a home depot.  I use a buddy's that is a mechanic whenever I need to check mine.  He has a brand new one he said he got from NAPA.  He said any auto parts store should carry them.

Check the center of the top platen then start moving it outwards checking the edges.  Temps shouldn't vary by any more then around 5 degrees.  Those will be fahrenheit temps.

eco film is a very nice film. eco is thinner that thermoflex if that would stick... anyway it must be ur pressure. where do u live so we can give u the closest distributor.

I live in Central NY.  I didn't really understand your post though. Eco is thinner than Thermoflex so would thermoflex stick?  The pressure on these is tricky.  If you have the pressure clamped down too much you can't get the top opened, it lifts the entire thing off the table instead.  I actually though I was going to burn a shirt up because I couldn't get it to lift.  The pressure hand screw won't turn with the top down, only with it up.  Therefore, the highest pressure I use is screwing it in as far as I can and still be able to get the top up.  Hope I explained that well enough.

that's exactly what i mean. the eco is a good film i luv because it actually looks like screen print but like i said thermoflex is thicker. i have never had a problem with eco. it's my personal preference but i like thermoflex as a second. both r good. i don't think it's the film i think it's ur press. with eco u don't even need heavy pressure.i think u should keep playing with it till u tweak it out. hope this helps let me know.

Thanks.  I found it there by searching.  It is more expensive than the eco but you also get more.  I will send for a sample  Thanks again.

Yes it's 20" wide that's why I started using it, most of my designs are 9" wide so I can get 2 cuts out of the 20" width.

Hey Five,

I got my samples from Joto.  The heat applied is much easier to weed than eco.  Still not sticking any better therefore I have come to the conclusion that it is the press.  If I set the pressure to a good setting then I can't get the lid opened without picking the whole thing up off the table.  I did both types today and the both did the same thing so it is definitely my press.  My husband is going to weld a handle on the bottom of the press so I have some leverage to open the top without it lifting.

Just wanted to let you know I did get my samples.  I would buy the Joto again due to the ease in weeding.  The vinyl does not come off with the scrap vinyl when weeding like the eco does.
