Variables to insert data from outside?

I am trying to do a number of name tags that I want to print and cut out with Vinyl Master.  I have the Pro version.

Is there a way to set up a master name badge for example and then reference an outside file (like excel) that contains the name and table number that would be printed one but multiple name badges per sheet?

Like the mail merge functionality in Word?

InkScape.  Great suggestion.  Hadn't thought about that.  Thanks for the help.
