TonZaga 10 Posted April 6, 2015 I'm looking to redo the taillights of my car because it's been about 5 years and the vinyl is shrinking to reveal some red around the taillights. I had purchased vinyl wrapped taillights from another message board prior to getting into vinyl stuff myself. Not sure what material they used but it looks to be 20-30% transparent. Just wondering if anyone has dealt with a vinyl that is transparent and hopefully a matte black/smoked finish to match the paint of my car.
88x 74 Posted April 6, 2015 Have you tried to spray paint them with the tail light tinting paint? The one set that I did came out in a matte finish
Moody Blue 505 Posted April 6, 2015 Night Shades a spray and the best way to get a matte finish. I personally think it looks cheap though so would recommend using Lamin-X film. Could always use a glossy film and add a matte laminate over the top. http://www.lamin-x.com/
mb20music 760 Posted April 6, 2015 Don't know of any "matte" transparent vinyl but Oracal 8300 which has a gloss to it comes in a "middle grey" which is probably about 30%, there is also a "dark grey" but I think it would be too dark for tail lights. http://www.uscutter.com/ORAFOL-8300-Transparent-Calendered-Vinl-15in-10yard-Roll
jeremySI 18 Posted April 6, 2015 I used to do vinyl overlays for some Hondas to make the whole taillights red. I used Oracal 8300.
