burning smell/power fading

I had a burning smell a week ago and my motherboard was fried.  got the new motherboard in today...hooked it up and got the burning smell again with a "fading" sound, as if it was losing power, and the display screen started fading out.  I unplugged the USB and it powered back up as well as the display screen coming back.  I went and bought a USB to serial converter, hooked it up, and it did the burning smell and power/display fade.  I unplugged the serial connection and the power and display came back up again.  Any ideas?  I thought it was a problem with the USB connection, but i have the same problem whether I use the USB or the serial connection.

It sounds like it might be an internal wiring or power supply issue. Send a PM to kenimes and let him know. If it were me I would unplug it and leave it alone until I heard from him.

Yea, could be the power supply if it does this with a new motherboard.
