Vinyl lifting...

Recommended Posts

I have an Ultra GRC76s, new 45 and 60 blades, offset  on .025 (i read most people recommend .25 but mine goes by .0xx up to .060)

down force ok....just enough too leave an impression in the backing slightly and speed set to 40-45 ips.

cutting Universal Products 2 ml Auburn Metallic film. or 3M controltac film both

As it cuts (smaller letters up to 1/2 to 3/4 an inch) it lifts the vinyl up as it cuts...and catches some on the blade sometimes too.

I have played with different down force settings and offset but cant get it right.

Any idea what I am doing wrong???

Ill get some 3-1 oil on the way home tonight I hadn't thought of that.

As far as the blade ...it is about 1 to 2 mm out now so I was worried about the holder catching the lifted vinyl. Ill back it off some more. I read about the thickness of a credit card or less (usually 1/2 the thickness of the card edge) Thanks folks. ;D

lot less than 1/2 the thickness of credit card - you should barely even see the blade.  the credit card thing is too much blade . . . but it lives on

**update**

Backed off blade and oiled carrage....check

TURNED TANGIBLE OFF!.....check

set to fine cut.....check

speed set to 25ips( now its actually going that fast!)  ....check

offset to .015.....check

3M controltac sucks.....double check

other vinyl cut great but I think the blade is still too far out.

so far so good on trial and error!

As a rule (for me) the blade is less than 1/2 the thickness of a credit card.

Check that and see if it helps any....

run your finger over the blade, you should BARELY feel it. It should be almost not visible. I kept trying to get it by the credit card trick but it always lifted. Once I just did it by feel it has worked great.

that seemed to help a lot ! I think its cutting properly now. I just need a higher quality vinyl like the copper color stuff. That 3M 170 controltac just wont cut nice for some reason.

that seemed to improve it but the 3M is still lifting. The copper color is great now.

I just need top slow it down a bit and increase the down force.
