What would be the Best Type

Recommended Posts

Guest sciondrgn

Got a little project,

Going to be doing a basic lighted sign, Going to do a cut out in vinyl to apply to some plexi and the plexi is frosted so just the words thats cut out will show, What would be the best vinyl to not allow any light through? The light will be Cold Cathode tubes so im not worried about heat as a traditional neon would have but just looking for what would work the best. the Avery vinyl seems to block out light decently and I could always do two layers if needed but was just wondering.

Thanks

Thinking dark like BLACK would work and use a thicker vinyl like a calendered black, depending on the other parameters of your application.

Yes, we are using black for this application but can you recommend any brand for the calendered?

If you talk to your vinyl supplier he will have a range of translucent vinyls in stock.

These are especially made for light boxes and let the vinyl letters glow when lit.

if you use calendered vinyl it will look dirty when backlit.

In that case you may need to buy white opaque vinyl.

This has Black adhesive and is used to block ALL light.

Other vinyl can then be applied over the top of the BLOCK OUT VINYL.

This is what to ask for.

Trust this helps
