Laserpoint 24" and Windows 7 Issue

Recommended Posts

So, I just purchased a new desktop with Windows 7 Home 64-bit. Installed all my software for the cutter (Sign Blazer and Sign Cut Pro). When I load a file to be cut, it will work perfectly the first time. But when I try to cut again, the software just hangs and won't send anything to be cut. This happens with Sign Blazer and Sign Cut Pro. The display on the cutter says "waiting". The only way to free up the cutter is to unplug the USB cable and power the cutter off/on.

Anyone else have this issue? It seems like the software is still trying to communicate something to the cutter.

Almost sounds like a driver conflict. I was just about to updated my cutting PC to Windows7 but I've seen a flood of post here with people having issue when updating or changing to new OS. So, I think I'll hold off for a bit.

If you haven't done so yet, make sure you have all the updates for Win7 and Drivers on your system.

Yeah, I've noticed several posts also.  I didn't have this problem with Windows XP.  My system is completely up to date, that was the first thing I thought of.

Oh well, guess I'll keep checking other things.......

Sorry wasn't much help. Please keep us posted on your fix if you find it. I to have the LP24 and would like to know how to get it to work when I decide to upgrade.

I have been having the issue since before upgrading to Windows 7. I was using Vista & XP on 2 machines and they all did it.

When it freezes like that just unplug the USB from your pc for a few seconds and plug it back in. Then you should be able to cut fine.

I don't know what it is but it started out of the blue. I didn't change anything and it started doing it one day.

sometimes I can get 3-4 different cuts in before it does it

I run Win7 at 64 bits and can use SC PRO and SBE without problem.

Make sure you use the latest W7 FTD drivers as mentioned in the new bie manual.

Ok guys I ran into the same problem.  I tried to cut out two copies of the same image and the machine started cutting wacky.  So I hit the kill switch so I wouldn't waste vinyl (started running the whole roll of easy weed).

Needless to say I rebooted CPU and cutter.  So all fresh and I send one cut via SignCut Pro.  It cuts, try to send a second.  NO DICE.  Just hangs.  says 45+ minutes to do a 5 minute cut.

I tried to kill SignCut pro, reboot, etc, etc.  Still only get one cut in.  So now with a hung set-up I went to sign cut pro and set the compatability mode to 'windows xp service pack 3' (no reboot) and the cutter starts to work.

That said, I am leaning on a driver issue.  Run compatability.  It should work.

[edit] I did one cut and it hung again.  Killed Sign Cut Pro, and it still did not cut.  So Killed Sign Cut Pro and unplugged USB.  Started Sign Cut Pro and replugged USB and it cut the vinyl.[edit}

For me now it is random times in signblazer. Sometimes I can cut 3-5 times and others it will freeze. I just pull the USB and it pops up saying cutter error. Just click ok and plug in usb and hit cut. Off it goes as normal.

More fine tuning of the problem this morning.  I can cut out of sign cut once.  Then it hangs.  I then cancel the cut when it hangs.  I then unplug the usb and replug and the cutting works.  So is the problem in Sign Cut or is it the USB driver?

Sounds like a pain to have to deal with. I like being able to hit cut and going to get a drink and coming back ready to weed LOL

I agree.  PAIN.  Not liking it.  I did just try to take away the compatibility mode (XP SP3) and it would NOT cut.  So I turn it back on and it cut.

Howard just posted this in another thread:

One thing to keep in mind is the chip in the cutter.

If you can use the FTDI driver from the support website you're good.  If you have to use the cutting plotter driver you will not be able to use any 64 bit OS, nor will it work with win 7.

You can replace the I/O board or get a Keyspan USB to serial adapter (from walmart.com unbelievably).

I am only using the 32 bit win 7.  So far it is working with the occasional unplug of the USB.
