I hope someone can help me figure out what happened and how to fix it. This weekend I was cutting a few signs (16 although I am sure that doesn't matter) and twice my cutter kinda "froze up" so that the cutter head stopped right where it was and the cutter rolled the vinyl all the way out of the machine with the head still in the down position and cutting as it rolled out the vinyl. I cut 9 good ones, then a bad one like I have described, 3 more good ones, and another bad one. It has never done anything like this before. I went to use it again last evening and when I send it to the cutter, it "draws" the path it will take, but the cutter doesn't do anything. I thought it might be the USB cable ... checked it and it was ok. Decided to change it for another cable, just to be on the safe side and it still did the same thing. I checked all my settings and they were all ok. I uninstalled the cutter/printer and reinstalled it, but it still did the same thing. I uninstalled SBE and reinstalled it and still the same. Does this sound like a problem any of you have encountered? If so, how did you fix it? I am wondering if it might not be the motherboard, but have no way to know that. However, if I press the test button it cuts the "registration mark" just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have 2 jobs on hold while I am trying to solve this problem. My customers are patient, but I still need to correct this and deliver their orders in a timely manner. Again, any help would really be appreciated. Thanks.

Larry

First, I would try resetting the machine with the reset button, but unfortunately if that doesn't work sounds like hardware error to me.

support.uscutter.com, they are you best bet for getting help, submit a ticket they always have gotten back to me quickly.

I failed to mention that I tried that several times. Thanks.

Another one bites the dust, dunt dunt dunt. Sad to say but I would say it's done. Invest in a better quality cutter this time around.

MaderDesign,

As far as the quality of the US Cutter product that I bought the first time around, I am happy with the quality and to tell you the truth will probably buy another (wider this time, but still a Refine). I bought that little machine to see if this would be something I'd be interested in. Found out it was/is. More than made back my "small investment" and learned alot along the way and "met" alot of good people in this forum  :) (most of whom would not have dared post a slight toward US Cutter's quality on THEIR OWN forum as you did  ;D ).  I was pretty sure that the manner in which I posted the original post for help/suggestions would invite sincere responses, not some jerk who just wanted to sound self-important AND take a slap at the company sponsoring the forum  ;D which I have NO doubt you have benefited from, Sir, or Ma'am, as the case may be.

PS: For what it's worth, congratulations on the VectorFest 2009 contest.  4 u.

It's def not sounding good for the motherboard

Yes, I have to agree. I am just leaning toward going ahead and getting a new one or hunting a good used one. I do have to wonder about the motherboard being bad if it still will cut the "registration mark" ... ?

Ok, one thing to check is the windows device manager.

Double click the usb serial port, click the port settings tab and be sure flow control is set to hardware.  Then click advanced.

Make sure the top two checkboxes are enabled and the rest are off (on the right hand side).

After making these changes unplug and replug the usb cable so that the changes will be applied to the port in the cutter.

Then try this:

Turn the cutter off.  Hold down the test button.  While holding test turn on the cutter.  As soon as you see the yellow light flash release the button.

You should see the following sequence of blinking lights:  Yellow, yellow, green, green, yellow, yellow.  The welcome should then appear and then the machine should start up normally.  If you see the yellow light or the green light start blinking rapidly it's an indication the motherboard failed the self test.  NOTE: If you hold down the test button during the entire test it WILL cause the yellow light to flash rapidly even if the board is good.

Let me know if it fails the test or if the changes to the settings help.

Another known issue are the weed options in signblazer.  Try turning all of those off and see if the cut works.

Have a great day!
