Cre8tiveCutter 7 Posted January 14, 2009 Aries, Being the owner of not one...but TWO cricuts...let me tell you this, Its a good machine for home crafters, scrapbookers etc. Decorate YOUR walls, do a few car decals, thats fine, but to try and do them professionally by the dozens, I wouldnt recommend it! Will get way to expensive, you cant run the machine without the cutting mats, they come two in a pack and have to be replaced alot. If you choose to link the machine using inkscape AND the other program you have to purchase as well as the design studio software for the cricut, provocraft will not honor the warranty. to break it down for you Cricut machine: 300.00 cutting Mats : 20.00 for two of the 12X24 Last about a month worth of normal scrapbooking before having to be replaced Cartridges : 99.00 when not on sale for the full size and 60.00 for the smaller carts Design Studio Software: 69.00 can only use the key ONCE if something happens and you have to reinstall you have to call customer service to get another key. ( people have been on the phone for hours to get thru and they are not open on the weekends) LOL Blades and misc tools ( such as spatula to scrape off the very sticky cutting mat) to start with i would say 40.00 Inkscape and the other program you need to to cut true type fonts. Inkscape is FREE but the other program is not. its 80.00 or 90.00 I think and you have to have both inkscape AND the other one to even use it. Constantly have to buy sticky mats and blades. always have to have a cartridge in the machine to even run it. your initial investment will be well over 600.00 and thats not counting the vinyl! then you will have the ongoing costs! My advise would be to go with a uscutter especially if all you want to do is vinyl! Just my 02. I havent used my cricuts in over 4 months! Renee
aries58 0 Posted January 15, 2009 THANKS FOR THE INFO...
john! 1 Posted January 15, 2009 I seen the commercial for this and thought it was pretty cool but i had no idea it required all that junk to just run it. You mine as well buy a refine cutter for $500 or less and go to town lol
haumana 1,220 Posted January 15, 2009 Holy schnikies! With that info I can't imagine anyone wanting to purchase one. Hahahaha.
mustangconv85 0 Posted January 15, 2009 My wife is really into scrapbooking and crafts so I bought her one for christmas she loves it she'll just get the cardriges when ever she finds them for a really good deal. works good for here cause she isn't very good when it comes to runing any type of graphics program so I get the Graphtec (once it shows up) and she gets the Cricut lol
Cre8tiveCutter 7 Posted January 15, 2009 It definetly is a great machine for basic scrapbooking and such, its the add ons that kill you, I loved mine and still do just dont have the time to use it! The cartridges are not too bad when you get them on sale. Mustang tell your wife to go to the cricut.com community, there is alot of info and some awesome creations, in fact its alot like this place , a good forum though it is full of women and well you know what happens when you have alot of women in a group...always someone stirring up sh*t, backstabbing and silly stuff going on...lol. There are approx 3 guys over there that are into scrapbooking, and well I will zip my lip and keep my opinions to myself... when i first got my cricut it was just the machine and the cartridges, thats it, now they have software and different kinds of blades and blade housing so you can get a deep cut and make your own rubber stamps and cut thicker material, the cricut software is really user friendly and while you still have to use the cartridges it allows you to do more with the cartridges etc etc. then some guy created a program that you have to use in conjunction with inkscape in order to get the cricut to cut true type fonts etc and on and on it goes....lol. renee
