    Blade offset! Where to set?

There is a setting in the software & on most cutters . Make sure the total is what you want ( .25 mm etc ) . I set it on my cutter & zero it in the software .

    Graphtec 6000 or 8000

How small are you cutting ? I have had 2 Copams for almost 6 years & have cut 1/8" letters . Cole casual lower case " e " is very difficult to weed at that size though . I hardly ever make anything that small & that was a decal for myself . I use 170 grams of pressure , a regular 45 degree blade that is only sticking out the thickness of the vinyl .

That is impressive . Where did you get that file at ?

    help getting a Serial cable

I bought both of mine from Radio Shack . I have 2 Copams using them .
  5. Meh , IMO , any rant is too much emotion & childish . An adult acts mature & " making a note of it when it is resolved " doesn't make it mature as far as I am concerned . Were you expecting Flexi Pro ?? SCALPro was released late last year ... The part I highlighted in quoting you is HILARIOUS !!! BannerJohn , the person who controls this forum as an Administrator is who you were telling how & what to post about ... use the report button .. see what that gets ya . Anybody can post whatever they want where they want as long as within forum guidelines . Feel free to read those guidelines . If you think something breaks those guidelines , use the " report " option in the bottom right ... It goes to BannerJohn most if not all the times .
  6. Hilarious !!! Hmmm in my book , no matter what a man likes best as far as figure wise on a woman .. the most unattractive woman on Earth is light years ahead of whatever is in 2nd place .

Fair enough . I did not mean for you to take it as you being obligated AT ALL ( way too dramatic for me ) . If you can't take 1 opinion ( mine ) over the internet .. ahh you might want to realize anything over the internet is not to be taken very seriously IMO . The Sunshine thing was meant sarcastic from the beginning ( to a 2 faced , backstabbing member that had a squabble with Marcus , USC & me a long time ago .. he is stalking me & I got scaded & put him on my " ignore " list ), so you finally got my humor . That is all I wanted to say ( " seems wrong " ) , so enjoy & I agree USC will be happy to have you as a customer . btw , IF anybody posts something to allow competitors to post on anything of theirs , let me know ... I have seen what happens on other places . I see $1 per square foot of printed vinyl in many places , but don't post that here out of respect for the printers here .

Hmm , I did not call anybody a " Bad Guy " . I said what he done seemed wrong to me . I also described several other threads/posts where members of this forum advised to buy from USC competitors . If anybody wants to dramatise that into a pity party .. no problem with me ... It is still wrong no matter how many agree with it . I see an insurance company's ads that say they will find a person the cheapest rate even if it is from a competitor ... Some companies at least say that ... & USC has been similair , allowing WAY more than what 99.99 % of the general public would allow ( I have not seen anybody post info on where a similair thing could be posted in some place they own/pay for , frequent like a website or Facebook etc Go to the company's website/forum & post something similair & see how many seconds/minutes it stays up !!! I have ) . I take that section that was refered to as helping people who already bought elsewhere , not using this forum for it's benifits & then buying elsewhere . If being realistic & having a sense of being fair is " a fog pulled over my eyes & can't see past his glasses for the most part " , I am glad of it !!! btw , how did you know i wore glasses ? I try to be realistic & fair in all things . I read where this member posted a competitors name & that they were selling cutters $300 cheaper than USC . I don't mind that at all .. except doing it on a forum that is paid for by USC does not seem to be fair at all & I think that is realistic ... now he is a salesman for that company on USC's forum for however long those posts are read . I am just a member , so I give my opinion when I want as everybody can . If I sent anybody to the therapists , I did not mean to .. I suspect some bit of a conscience did more than my post ... if any conscience exists . I think the only person who can take any bit of pride away from me is myself . I don't ecpect everybody else to consider pride & what it is based upon as important as I do . Just because a company is huge & there is a common feeling that it isnt hurting anybody . anything negative actually does . This forum is a valuable tool for USC & to it's members & anybody wanting info on vinyl cutting & printing. I will do what I can in a positive way & won't do anything in a negative way . If the owners ever decide to close it , I know I did not contribute anything negative .. but mainly have the pride that I am fair , show appreciation & have been taught better morals than most .
  9. My dad always told me to NOT believe anything that was told to me & only about 1/2 of what I actually seen , then i would be about 1/2 right . As with anything in lfe ( ESPECIALLY on the internet ) , it is told as the teller decides to tell it . I think Lara was telling it as it happened . It is just advice , so take it or discard it . It is each person's decision to do or not do anything including copyright infringement .

Hmmm , wanting help on a forum paid for by USC with setting up a cutter bought from another company . Just seems wrong to me . I would not admit that , IF I did what you did ( I would not do that ) . I have an opinion of myself & I honor my sense of integrity . I shake my head when I read member's posts promote direct sompetitors on USC's site . I have seen ANY similair post immediately removed from other forums that are paid by any other comapnies . Marcus was " big " enough to alow stuff like that . i hope the new owners of USC are more standard business like & use the delete button more , plus ban any member who keeps being 2 faced , backstabbing , disloyal . I don't care to interact with anybody conducting themselves like that ( more additions to my " Ignore List " ) . Anybody think otherwise , please post your websites , facebook acounts & see if you allow posts that are negative to your endevours ...
  11. I have not used SCALPro alot since my computer has some weird mouse problem that only shows up in SCALPro . I have never had to update ?? i just by-pass the update & design etc . It does not have to have an internet connection . I would not depend solely on any hobby type software or unsupported software like SB for a shop . I would load InkScape for another back-up , but have at least Flxi starter etc , so you would not go thru what you describe . Things like that can hurt your reputation in a big way .. especially if that customer blabs alot ( which unhappy customers do )
  12. I like the noise . I wish my Copam was a little louder ( stepper motor ) . I have a buddy who has a Roland he bought long ago ( $7K deal from SW ) . i don't know if it is a stepper or servo , but it is louder than my Copam . I was diapppointed that my Copam did not sound like his cutter . It sounds like R2D2 & money to me . Sometimes I cut at night when my wife is asleep .. she is a light sleeper & even though I am 20' from our bedroom , it does not wake her .

    Considering a Part Time Business/Hobby

How saturated your area/market is with competitors matters alot . Also the type customers you intend to attract . If your overhead is controlled , you can make good money as the materials don't cost much . The wear & tear on the cutters is minimal & they are inexpensive to buy & maintain . Many people say " buy what you can afford " .. Me , I say " buy what you can justify " . Really , I think anybody could buy most anything they want if they want to make the commitment .

    RRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

The tutorial suggests to save on the Desktop . That is where I save my files . Always has worked good for me .
  15. You gotta admit , it is a deterrent for some . For those who take the gamble , they will probably win % wise ... but some will lose .
  16. The law was made to protect intellectual property , not to make sense . With the law , they have control over quality " IF " they let anybodt reproduce what they own . They are not scrambling to make a name , they already have spent enough to do so . In situations like this with DeWalt ,.. it does seem that no harm for extra advertising . Harly , Disney etc ... make a TON of money selling stuff & illegally produced stufff eats into what is due to them .
  17. Controlling the overhead costs is what makes a certain price profitable for some & a loss for others . It surely is not the material costs . Oracacl 651 costs less than $1 per square foot RTA .

    Printed decals to the trade

1 member offered printed stuff for $1.50 per square foot ( and another counter offered $1 ... ) in 1 thread . If I run across it , I'll post back .
  19. I don't know . The Copam does anything I want it to do . I am sure every step up in class & money makes what you are buying superior . I could buy anything I want , I just feel silly buying more than what is needed . Snap On tools are the best bar none . I buy Craftsman , Kobalt & Husky . If I loose them , they get stolen etc , I am not as upset about it . Some people need the better qualities of the higher end cutters , but not most . BannerJohn has been in business for MANY years . Especially with his connection to USC , he could have anything he wanted . He has always used " value " cutters " & speaks highly of them . In hind sight , I did not need a Copam & if I had read/know what I know now , probably would have not bought a Copam . Cutting vinyl will always be in an inferior class compared to custom painted , so that high & mighty " professional cutter " attitude is silly IMO . I go to some car shows .. NOTHING has cut or printed vinyl on the winning cars . I have not been to any shows recently . Last time I went , NOTHING seriously had any cut vinyl or printed vinyl . Cut & printed vinyl is MUCH more practical & affordable . I am proud & enjoy making cut vinyl decals , but don't blow my own horn like some do Oh , 1 more thing ...blade adjustment & pressure adjustment works on ALL cutters .
  20. I think they were . I use DeWalt 1/2" cordless impacts & they do a great job & are alot more affordable than Snap-On , Milwalkee etc . DeWalt did not go after Laura , they allowed some company to go after anybody breaking the law . If we were in their place , we might see things more their way .. especially the stock holders . they are involved to make money & have a standard of what represents them . that is part of any agreement most companies make with vendors . If Harley let eveybody make Harley T-Shirts , they would not be protecting the companies they contract with to make T-shirts for them . Loyalty enters in the situation also . Somebody could make DeWalt decals that faded fast , was not correct & at least take away from the company DeWalts pays to make official decals . It is much more than what Monday morning quarterbacks think .

    What is that thing called...?

Vinyl holder , vinyl rollers is how it has been described here . The model you show is something to sit on a desk , table etc . I have 1 that fits on the stand under my cutter . It really does not need to be a roller bearing style . I always unroll more than what I am cutting , so the cutter is not pulling the weight of the roll of vinyl plus rolling resistance . By hand rolling resistance does not matter much .

take heart & don't feel bad when someone tries to promote their ego at the expense of you or others . Those people really need pity IMO . There was a problem I had with a close friend's buddy . I was semi-friends with the guy also . I said something to make my buddy say " do you know how much money , property , equipment he has ? he has 50 people as employees & a successful contracting company " . I told my buddy that if the guy was looking down on me because he is more successful , I pity him . My buddy was shocked & I told him this . " Can you imgine if he looks down on me ... how demeaned he feels when he thinks of Donald Trump , Bill Gates etc ? ... I told him I did not feel a bit inferior to anybody including those people . I admired their success , but did not feel superior to the bums begging for change at the intersections or lower than the filthy rich . That I truely felt pity for those that did ." My buddy readjusted his attitude , but still is in that pecking order affliction , sadly . People usually lording it over anybody is dealing with some sort of inferiority complex & derserves pity even though they evoke a stronger reaction
  23. Well ... Looking back up that nose at ya ) I was discussing blade exposure & pressure . I have not looked , but I assume every cutter has a max force pressure rating ? Does Graphtec state it cuts up to 48 units of pressure or an ACTUAL gram measurement ?? I dont care if any specific company does not use actual pressures but " professionally " uses arbatrary numbers 1 - 48 , I was advising to use more pressure & crank the blade exposure down to where it is JUST exposed more than the thickness of the material being cut .. My Copams use actual settings which are in 10 gram increments from 50 grams to 500 grams .

I was within minutes of buying the $2500 deal from SW back in 2007 .. the Q60 something with clipart supplys etc . I have been very happy ever since . A buddy of mine had just bought that deal & had MAJOR buyers remorse when he seen how small I could cut .
  25. I am interested in why you want contour cutting . I have cut heat transfer vinyl . I am planning on buying a sub printer to make transfers . To me , contour cutting might make it neat , but not needed . Printed vinyl is what needs contour cutting from what I thought ?? Scissors will work on the rest ?
